I am actually pretty impressed with myself that I was able to complete this month’s challenge. Between being in the thick of our bathroom makeover for the One Room Challenge and a super busy Easter weekend, it was a real struggle to find time to come up with something.
However I had a few spare minutes on Saturday morning, so I grabbed this ice bucket that I had picked up a few weeks ago and started brainstorming what I wanted to do with it.
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
I began by wiping the whole thing down with some diluted vinegar to remove the dirt and grime that it had accumulated in it’s previous life. Then I busted out a few colors from of my paint stash and mixed up 5 various shades of gray.
I used a small craft brush to paint the sides different colors. I went in a somewhat random order but I did try to alternate the darker grays with the lighter ones.
Once it was dry I went back with some sandpaper to distress it. Since I decided that this would make a cute outdoor flower pot, I gave it a coat of outdoor urethane to protect it.
Anthony used the drill to add a few holes through the bottom for drainage.
It now sits on the front porch holding these pretty white flowers!
We all know what a black thumb I have, so hopefully I can keep these alive for awhile because they sure do brighten up this little spot nicely!
I wasn’t sure if the multiple colors would make it look too busy so I almost went with just one. Luckily it ended up looking fun and interesting and I absolutely love it!
It’s sort of hard to believe this is an ice bucket, isn’t it?
Thanks for stopping by today. Be sure to check out what my friends have created this month below!

Hi..what a unique look you gave the bucket, came out fantastically cute. My question is, though it wasn’t mentioned, did you fill the bucket with soil or inserted the flowers in it’s own plastic container in the bucket?? Thank you for your time…..keep on decorating!

I filled it up with soil! Thank you so much Maria!

Oh, Angela! I am in love with your ice bucket. I love that you decided to use several shades of grey. It defenitely pays of to be brave while being creative! Pinning this! And if your little flowers don’t survive, simply use some feaux plants. This is what I tend to do, once I mess up in one spot of my house. I learned that some areas are simply not bright enough.

Thank you so much Habiba! That’s probably what I will do, glad you understand my struggle haha!

How unique and clever to paint on alternating colors to turn an ice bucket into a flower pot, Angela! The end result is quite pretty – especially to hold plants! Maybe you’ll have a green thumb with this beauty!

Very pretty. I really like how each slat is a different shade. This looks so pretty on the porch. I can’t wait for the weather to get nice to decorate my porch.
