Hey friends! The month of October seems to be filling up as fast as it usually does for us. Each year we have our pumpkin patch visit, a jack o’ lantern festival and a trip to “boo at the zoo.” This year we are also adding in a trip to our theme park that decks itself out for Halloween and also plan to visit a local nursery that has a fall festival for the kiddos. I get tired just thinking about it haha, but creating the special memories makes it all worthwhile!
Last week (before the chaos of this month began!) I decorated our front porch for Halloween. I snapped a few photos to share with you guys because I am really happy with how it turned out. These pictures were taken at dusk so that you could get a feel for how it looks all lit up. I will include a full source list at the end of this post, but if I seem to forget something please don’t hesitate to ask.
Alright, let’s get started!
As someone who enjoys neutral colors I wanted to find way to be festive but stick to a neutral color scheme, so I incorporated a lot of black, whites and browns.
One of my favorite features is the “spooky tree” which is really just a dead branch that I clipped off one of our trees and secured in a standing planter with dirt and rocks.
I purchased two strands of string lights and used one around the door and another on the tree. It took a little bit of patience to wrap it around the brittle branches, but my efforts paid off because it looks absolutely magical at night.
My wood wagon planter worked perfectly to hold a straw bale, some pumpkins and a couple of faux crows.
I especially enjoy these crows (link to small one) because they aren’t the typical feathered ones that I usually see. They have sort of a cute factor to them haha.
I found this little sign in the Target Bullseye Playground and it ended up being perfect to hang in the tree.
I knew that I wanted a few jack o’ lanterns but I couldn’t find any affordable white ones. So I decided to DIY! I used a can of Heirloom White spray paint and gave them each a couple of coats.
I’m obsessed with how they turned out. Everything is set up on a timer so each evening they cheerfully turn on and light up our porch.
The black lantern adds a fun whimsical vibe, I think I may even go back and get the smaller one since they are so affordable. I put a battery operated tea light inside and I love the soft orange glow that it gives off when it’s dark.
On the other side of the porch I set up my DIY witches broom that I made out of a branch and some twigs. I topped it off with a witches hat and hung a cute hocus pocus sign from it.
I also stuck a little black tinsel cat behind it. After taking these pictures I decided that he actually needed to be in front of the broom where he can be seen better!
Above the door I hung this fun broom sign (I painted over the lettering with white paint) and I also made my own bat wreath using a simple wreath form and some plastic bats.
I am so happy with how it turned out and so are the boys!
It may not be the “typical” Halloween porch, but it’s perfect for us!
