3 Space Saving Closet Tips

March 20, 2015

Hello there! Happy Friday and happy first day of Spring! The weather here is supposed to be gorgeous the next few days but then I heard that we may be getting some snow next week. Nooooo! I’m ready for winter to go away for a little bit.

Today I am going to share a few of my favorite space saving tips for the closet. Our closet isn’t exactly small, but I do have a lot of clothes that I don’t wear but can’t part with store haha.

So I’ve had to get creative to make the most out of the space.

I once saw an idea on Pinterest where someone used pop can tabs to double up hangers. However, I didn’t want to collect that many pop cans and I thought I could come up with something a little more visually appealing.

So I picked up a package of key rings for a couple of bucks and it worked like a charm!

By doing this, you can hang up double the amount of items. Genius!

You could even triple the hangers if you’re really short on space like I did in little man’s room in our old apartment.

My next favorite was something that the old owners of the house actually built. They basically DIY’ed a shelf on this little awkward wall by using two shelf brackets, a piece of wood and a wooden dowel, all perfectly cut to fit the width of the wall.

I spray painted it with my go-to white to pretty it up, of course ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s the perfect spot to hang all of my skirts and dress pants up. And yes, I totally staged this photo. Normally I have about 20 hangers squished up there but nobody wants to see that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Underneath I put a couple of storage cubes to hold sweaters.

And now to my oldest trick, which is the perfect way to utilize that awkward top shelf.

Instead of stacking clothes sky high so that the whole pile falls down when you try to grab something from the bottom, these babies make it easy to separate stacks of clothes.

You can find them at Walmart or Target for about $10 each. We have 4 that stretch across the entire top shelf and it makes it so easy to take items out and put them away.

Oh and sorry about the crummy pictures, since our closet is attached to our bathroom it gets almost zero natural light.

So there you have it, 3 easy (and cheap!) ways to maximize your closet space.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! My cabinet paint that I ordered finally came in so I’ll be starting on the kitchen tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that it turns out!

Linking up to these awesome parties!

What a great idea. I have lots of clothes I don't wear and I am having serious separation issues with. I am going to have to purge…really soon. In the mean time this would be a great solution.

It's so hard to purge with clothes isn't it?! Thanks for stopping by Trish ๐Ÿ™‚
