I mentioned last week that for the very first time I will be participating in the One Room Challenge. This awesome event is hosted twice a year by Linda over at Calling It Home and I am over the moon excited to be joining in on the fun this season as a guest participant!
The purpose of this challenge is to transform a room in just short 6 weeks.
You read that right–6 weeks to complete an entire room makeover. It’s going to be tough, but I am up for the challenge! Each Thursday I will share my progress with you all and on the 6th week I will share the final room reveal.
The room that I’ve chosen to work on is our master bedroom. Come on in and take a look at what it currently looks like…
This room hasn’t gotten much attention the last two years that we’ve lived in our house. Since it’s not a part of the main living area and guests don’t see it, I just haven’t put it very high on the priority list.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly unhappy with the way it looks. But over time I have made a little mental checklist of things that I want to do in here.
And it’s actually a good thing that I’ve put this room off for so long because I feel like I’ve just recently started to develop a better understanding of my style.
So let’s take a look at what I have planned!
The first thing I plan to do is add some interest to the back wall by adding board and batten in a grid style.
I like the way Sarah from Life on Virginia Street did hers. I just love how much it brightens the room. And if you’ve been around awhile you probably have noticed that me + the color white = pure bliss.
I’m thinking that this will be the most time consuming and labor intensive part of this makeover so if I knock that out first it should be smooth sailing from there! At least here’s to hoping…
After that’s done I plan to make a tufted upholstered headboard similar to the one that Sarah at Thrifty Décor Chick did in her master bedroom.
I know that I want tufting and nail head trim like hers, but I am debating if I want to do that shape or something more like this one that I spotted on Amazon.
It’s currently so dark and blah. I plan to paint the dresser white which will help a TON. I also want to add something to the sides. Maybe some DIY mason jar sconces?
I’m looking forward to dressing up the top of the dresser with some new décor.
And finally, I plan to do something about those curtain rods that I’ve had for years. I loved them back in the day, but I feel like they don’t really fit with the direction that I’m going.
I put together a mood board to help organize my thoughts and to give me an idea of what it will all look like put together.
So there you have it! I can’t wait to begin this journey.
I’ve already gotten a start on the board and batten wall this past weekend and I will be back next week to update you on that. I’m hoping that it’s done by the end of the week so that we can get started on the headboard this weekend. Fingers crossed!
