Make Your Own Vintage Storage Baskets

May 16, 2017

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was busy as usual!

When I was designing our new master bathroom one of the very first ideas that I had was to put some baskets on the wall to hold extra towels.  I liked that it would help it feel “spa like” in here.

I ordered this pretty guy from Target and anxiously awaited its arrival.  However I sadly realized that it was going to be too tall for the space since I was doing shiplap on half of the wall.

So I had to return it but I did use it as inspiration to create my own!

Supplies Used: (Affiliate links may be provided for convenience.  For more info, see my full disclosure here.)

  • Wall Mount Baskets
  • Rust-Oleum Satin Enamel Spraypaint
  • Medium-Grit Sandpaper
  • Label Holders (if you don’t live by a Hobby Lobby these would work too)
  • Rust-Oleum Hammered Metal Finish Spray Paint
  • Scrapwood
  • Screws
  • Self-Drilling Drywall Anchors

This is what the baskets looked like originally.  Pretty plain Jane and not enough vintage for this girl!

I took them out in the garage and gave them each a coat of white spray paint.

I also picked up these adorable little label holders from Hobby Lobby with my mobile 40% coupon and painted them as well.

I tried to use the fasteners that they came with to attach them to the baskets but they didn’t feel very secure and slid around a lot.  That would be fine if they were just going to sit on the wall for decoration but since I was going to be sliding towels in and out I decided that I needed a better solution.

So I painted some scrap lattice wood white and the hubby used this to attach the label to with screws.

I ran over the baskets with some sandpaper to distress them.

After popping in some labels that I created on the computer these babies were ready to go on the wall!

Pretty simple right?

They didn’t line up with studs (of course…) so we used drywall anchors to make sure that they don’t come crashing down in the middle of the night and scare us to death!

Did you catch that the label holders changed color??  I decided that the white didn’t pop enough so I took them off and painted them silver and then distressed them with some sandpaper.  So much better!

In case you missed last weeks’ big reveal you can catch it here!
