Happy hump day my friends! I hope you are all having a great week so far.
Last week when I shared my 9 farmhouse style vanity mirrors that I’ve rounded up, I promised that I would share an update on the powder room makeover with you guys. I wish I could report to you all that we are almost done, but to be honest we still have quite a ways to go!
We’re chugging along very slowly and at times it feels like we’re making little progress. However after editing the pictures for this post I realized that we have actually come quite a far ways since the very beginning! It was a surprising and very much needed good feeling.
As a reminder this is what the room looked like when we first closed on the house.
After the washing machine flood fiasco I started planning this makeover and right off the bat I knew that I wanted a black and white vintage patterned tile for the floors. I was over the moon excited when we finally had these gorgeous MSI Paloma Encaustic tiles installed and it felt like a dream come true!
Next I started installing the shiplap. I followed the same steps that I did when I installed it in our old dining room (tutorial here) although this time I painted the sides of each board before nailing it up. I learned the hard way that it’s extremely difficult to get those painted once they are on the wall.
Oh and we also installed a new toilet! Yippee!! We had some out of town friends coming to stay with us over Labor Day weekend and the thought of only having one toilet in the house (since the one in our master was broken) really pushed us into gear to get it done ASAP! We still need to caulk around it and cut down the extra long bolts that we had to use because of how thick the tile is, but it’s been so nice having a toilet on the main floor again.
Over the past week we have been slowly adding things here and there which brings us to how it looks today!
I struggled with choosing the perfect light fixture to put in the laundry area. Finally I decided on this awesome cage ceiling light and I am absolutely thrilled with it.
We also put up our industrial shelving unit that I had previously purchased at Hobby Lobby for the basement bathroom at our old house. It fits perfectly in here and although I’m not 100% satisfied with how I have it styled I’ve enjoyed walking by and actually seeing something on the wall in here!
The search for a vanity light also wasn’t easy for me. Are you noticing a trend when it comes to my decorating decision making??
The hubby requested that I avoid getting a metal one that casts light downward and he also didn’t like the bell shaped glass ones that I showed him. At last I finally stumbled upon this gorgeous oil rubbed bronze farmhouse style vanity light. that we both agreed was perfect for this space. It was a total splurge but so worth it!
I ordered the vanity but then realized that I ordered the wrong size once it arrived. Womp womp. The new one should be here tomorrow and we will hopefully begin installing it this weekend. I still haven’t decided on a mirror (surprise surprise), but once I do this wall will be looking a whole lot more complete!
Oh and I almost forgot! purchased the same chicken wire toilet paper holder that I had in our master bathroom at the last house. It’s funny to get excited about a toilet paper holder but it’s just too cute!!
Here is what we have left on the to do list:
- Install vanity and wood countertop
- Install vessel sink and faucet
- Choose and hang vanity mirror
- Add hand towel bar
- Finish installing baseboards
- Add quarter round in the corners and corner molding around the pony wall
- Install floating shelves above the washer/dryer
- Add art on the large wall
- Trim out window
- Trim out door
We’re getting there! Slowly but surely. Thanks for stopping by today my friends. I will be back next week for the monthly Thrift Store Decor Challenge. See you then!
