Each year before the crazy holiday bustle gets started, Erlene over at My Pinterventures puts together a fun little ornament exchange between bloggers all across blogland. Last year was my first time participating in this event and I had such a blast that I was eager to join in again this year!
I was lucky to be partnered up with Bri from Halfpint Designs. When we discussed what each other’s style was I was super excited to learn that she is just as smitten with all things woodland just like me. So it made it almost too easy to come up with this cute little rustic birdhouse ornament for her.
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
- Small Wood Birdhouse
- Greenery
- Large Pine Cone
- Mini Pine Cones
- Craft Owls
- FrogTape
- Minwax Dark Walnut
- White Latex Paint
- Medium Grit Sandpaper
- Hot Glue Gun
I began by taping off the rope hanger that was attached to the birdhouse with some Frogtape before staining it.
Next, I used a small artist brush to carefully paint the outside of the house white.
I used some scissors to cut pieces of a large pine cone off. The pine cones that I purchased from Hobby Lobby already had white painted on the edges which was nice.
Even though I didn’t use all of the pieces, it was nice to have a large assortment to choose from.
I used my hot glue gun to attach the “shingles” one at a time on the roof. Before applying the glue to each piece I always did a dry fit to make sure that I had enough space.
At Hobby Lobby I found a really nice wreath pick that I was able to chop some mini greenery pieces off of and I glued them on the front along with a few mini pine cones that I also found there.
I used a small piece of sandpaper to lightly distress the white portion of the house. This would of course be easier to do before attaching anything, but I forgot earlier on!
Finally, I topped it off with a cheerful craft owl on the roof.
I am so happy with how it turned out!
The pine cone shingles are just so stinking cute. No lie, I’m totally planning on making one of these for myself!
I can’t wait to see how it looks on Bri’s tree!
While I was photographing it, the boys felt compelled to jump in and take a picture with it and I thought it was just too cute not to share.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week!
Linking up to these awesome parties!
