Our New Blackout Curtains + Grommets to Rings Tip

July 9, 2020

Happy Thursday my friends! To start, I want to recognize the fact that my posts have been coming to you at the end of the week as opposed to early or mid-week like I had previously been doing. To be honest it’s because I’ve been SUCH a busy bee on projects around here and it’s taking me a bit longer to snap photos and sit down to write posts. So thank you so much for your patience on that!

Today I am sharing something that I am pretty dang excited about–our new blackout curtains!

Our bedroom faces east and the last two years that we have lived in this house we have been curtain-less in here. Which means that we have had the joy of the sunrise blaring brightly in our faces almost every morning!

I kept putting off purchasing curtains because I was holding out for some expensive white velvet ones that I had seen another blogger mention. However one day I decided to do a quick browse on Amazon and that’s when I discovered these white linen blackout curtains and decided to give them a shot.

I am SO extremely glad that I did! I knew that ordering curtains online was a little risky since you can’t see them up close or feel them, but I am happy to report that the linen texture is absolutely gorgeous and they are actually a really nice quality.

I got the 96″ length since I like curtains to pool a little bit at the floor.

I ordered this matte black pipe curtain rod since I liked the industrial farmhouse vibe of it. As an added bonus, the curtain rings are able to wrap around the side to block out sun from coming in the sides.

Speaking of the curtain rings, I’m exited to let you in on a neat little tip that I discovered! These curtains actually have big chrome grommets that I’m not a fan of.

I simply folded the top over so that the grommets are facing the window and then clipped on matte black curtain rings!

Genius! Now they are no longer visible and look so much more high end and Pottery Barn-ish 🙂

I also find that they glide open and closed a lot more easily on rings.

When closed they truly are “blackout” and zero light gets through them.

We have been waking up feeling soooo much more rested now that we get those extra couple of hours of slumber in darkness.

In case you’re curious the Lovers Lane sign was another Amazon find and it looks like they still sell it!

Oh real quick before I sign off–did you notice our beautiful new floors in here?! We recently finished them up and I’m so happy with how they turned out. Here’s a quick before and after from what this room looked like originally to today:

Don’t mind the rug, we just shampooed it and I’m still waiting for it to flatten back out haha!

Okay I’m off to start packing for our family camping trip that we leave for tomorrow. I’ll catch up with you guys next week!
