Hello everyone and welcome to 2021 🙂 I hope everyone is having a nice start to the new year so far. I spent a majority of the weekend putting away all of the Christmas decor and as usual the house felt soooo empty after it was all down. As usual I left a few wintery things out to keep the house feeling cozy during the next couple weeks and I plan on sharing a winter home tour here soon.
One area that I found myself having to switch up was the wall with the picture ledges that I built last month for the boys’ Santa portraits that you may have caught in the Christmas home tour.
When I replaced the photos I realized that I never actually got around to doing a tutorial on them. So this week I want to share how I put these together in case any of you have a blank wall that could use a fun photo display.
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
1. Measure Out Lengths
I decided to make my ledges 36″ long so I purchased one 1×4 @6′ and two 1x2s @6′ and cut them each in half on the miter saw.
2. Stain
I decided to use some weathered oak stain that I had on hand and used a microfiber rag to stain all of the pieces. You could also stain these after they are assembled.
3. Attach
I used liquid nails to adhere one 1×2 to the front of the 1×4 and the other to the top of it before securing with wood screws. Make sure you predrill holes or else you may end up with split wood (I speak from experience haha)
We used drywall anchors to install them on the wall since we didn’t have enough studs in the right places and this is how they turned out.
I used photos from our sledding and snowman building adventures to keep with the wintery theme we have going on right now. Then as luck would have it, later in the day my mom found this gem of my dad on his motorcycle. As soon as I saw it I knew that it would look perfect here ♥
They fill out the wall perfectly and I’ve been enjoying this view so much.
I look forward to switching out the big photos each season.
For just a few bucks in lumber and an hour of work I only wish that we had built these a long time ago! Have a happy rest of the week my friends.
Linking up to these awesome parties!
