Hey guys, can you believe it–two posts in one week! In case you missed yesterday’s post about easy budget Christmas crafts you can catch it here.
Today I am staying on the trend of easy and budget. I love admiring the decor that some of my favorite bloggers use, but if I’m being realistic I am not eager to drop that kind of money on things like garland, trees and other decor pieces–I would much rather spend that dough on the kids! Therefore I like to stick to more cost friendly ideas that are just as pretty in my opinion and can’t wait to share them with you guys!
1. Container with Filler
Whenever I feel stuck and am not sure what to put in a spot I fall back to one of my trusty Christmas filler combos. In the case of this coffee table tray I needed something to sit on the wood sled, so I grabbed a small basket and filled it with greenery picks and jingle bells.
I did the same thing on our dining room table using a dough bowl but I also added in a few pinecones.
Greenery picks can be found for just a couple dollars at the craft stores and you can either buy pinecones or if you’re lucky to have a few nearby you can forage them. I like to use a little white paint on the tips to give them a snowy effect. Jingle bells can also be found at the craft stores, but my favorite is this pack of 100 rustic jingle bells which is only $16 and can go a long way.
2. Bucket/Basket with Logs
Another favorite of mine is to fill either a bucket or basket with some fabric and a few logs.
This especially works well for the bottom of console tables as I have done this year, but also looks nice next to the fireplace or by the tree.
Just pop a festive scarf of some burlap inside along with with logs either purchased inexpensively from craft stores or cut right from your yard.
These are actually mini little birch slices that I have arranged just right so that they look like logs that go all the way down–only you and I know that the bucket is mainly filled with burlap ๐
3. Make Your Own Garland
The trick to making a garland feel more fancy is how you dress it up with embellishments.
I always start with an inexpensive garland from the craft store and then string on some lights to make it more magical. I like using ones like these because they are battery operated (no cords running to an outlet!) and they can be set up on a timer to turn on and off the same time each night.
I then attach some bunched up ribbon and finish it off with jingle bells, snowflakes or a pompom garland. Garlands can get up there in price, but I find that the simple ones from Hobby Lobby or Michaels look just as good as the more expensive versions once they are all dressed up.
I shared a reel on my Instagram on how I made the garlands this year but I’ll give you a big tip that I actually just learned this year–floral wire is your friend!
4. Wreaths
One of my favorite tricks to make any spot feel extra festive is to add in a wreath. Mini wreaths can be found in the dollar spot at Target every year and also at the craft stores for usually less than 5 bucks.
I like to put the minis in various spots around the house and you can use a different ribbon to hang them each year to switch them up.
Hanging them over mirrors is always an easy way to add some festiveness to a space.
You can find larger ones that are plain and dress them up yourself. This one for example is only $10 at Walmart and I simply stuck in my own pinecones and battery operated lights.
5. Lanterns
And finally, lanterns! I absolutely love to use lanterns for every season but they can be especially fun to dress up at Christmas time. This year I added some ornaments inside of one and I absolutely love the look.
It’s a good way to display pretty ornaments and I can’t believe that it took me this long to come up with the idea.
Lanterns can be found fairly inexpensively at the craft stores but my favorites ones usually come from Walmart. These ones are HUGE and very fairly priced for their size and quality.
I added some greenery, red/white twine and some battery operated candles inside. They look very cozy sitting on our fireplace hearth.
So there you have it, my top 5 easy decorating tips for Christmas that can be achieved on a budget! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll see you back here next week for a full Christmas home tour. ๐
