Well hello and happy New Year! I know, I know I’m a little late to the game but the start of this year has been absolutely CRAZY and I’m just now getting a moment to take a breath and chat with you guys. Having a baby the first week of January means that the start of the new year will always be a wildly busy (but enjoyable) time as you celebrate their birthday!
As his birthday came to a close and I thought that I would finally be ready to dive into the new year, I started battling one of my longest and strangest migraine episodes in history. The usual pain that I’m used to is now accompanied with a strange dizziness and pressure that comes and goes and I’ve been dealing with it for over a week. A day at the urgent care didn’t give me any real solid answers, but at least ruled out anything serious with the CT that I had done. I have a primary care appointment later today so I’m still holding on to a little bit of hope that we can get to the bottom of this weirdness.
Anyways, I have been enjoying seeing other bloggers share their goals for the new year,so I decided that it would be fun to compile a list of my own! These are going to be a mix of personal and blog related and I’m hoping that jotting them down like this will help me manifest them better.
In no particular order, here we go!
1. Blog More
I noticed that I’m not the only blogger that has fallen off of their normal posting schedule over the last couple of years. It seems like people are so much more drawn to video content like Tiktok, Youtube and IG Reels, and I think overall blog traffic worldwide has really slowed down as a result.
It’s sad because I feel like so much more can be gained from reading an actual blog post as opposed to a quick 5 second clip of something! I’m definitely guilty of spending more time looking at video content but I would like to get back to focusing more attention to blogs–both to writing on my own and reading others.
I used to post 1-2 times a week and now I’m lucky if I can get 2-3 posts out per month. Therefore it’s my goal to bring you a post at least once a week even if it’s not anything big and exciting. I want to share daily life happenings or small little tips and finds as I find them. It’s my honest hope that I can be more present in my little corner of the internet here!
2. Less Stuff, More Memories
With the recent flood of gifts over Christmas and Lucas’ birthday, I’m feeling quite overwhelmed with the amount of stuff in our house. I usually try to go through and make big donation runs prior to the holidays, but that just didn’t happen this past year so it’s extra bad.
I would like to start really enforcing the idea of less is more with both myself and the boys, as well as the idea of the value of a memory. So for instance instead of going to the store and buying new toys, use that money to go do something together like bowling or spending the night somewhere fun.
Not only will we be creating more memories, we will be saving ourselves from all of the extra stuff that we don’t need cluttering up the house!
3. Update our Master Bathroom…Again
One of the major projects that I have planned for this year is tackling our master bathroom again. Our bathroom truly needs a full gut job, but as most of you already know those sorts of makeovers aren’t cheap! Shortly after we moved in I gave everything a budget update to tide us over until we could afford a full reno (post here).
Sadly this room still hasn’t made it high enough on the priority list to afford, and the budget updates that I made are starting to show wear and tear. I would like to go back and do another budget makeover to fix the things that are falling apart and to give it a fresh new look.
I have been brainstorming quite a few ideas for this space and can’t wait to get started in here!
4. More “Me” Time
Are there any other moms and wives guilty of not setting aside and creating enough “me” time for themselves? My guess would be that there are probably a whole bunch of you! I know that I’ve heard those phrases about the importance of filling your own cup so that you can fill others, but I don’t think I truly saw the importance of it until recently.
I would like to try to step back from the daily grind every now and then to spend the day treating myself to coffee and a pedicure to recharge my batteries and help me be the best, not so worn down version of myself. Even if it’s something as simple as taking an afternoon to read a book outside or go for a nature walk.
5. Healthier Cooking
I knooooow, this is on almost everyone’s list of new year goals haha. Ever since the pandemic began and Doordash became our go to sometimes several times a week, I’ve been wanting to get us back on track to cooking healthier meals.
We have a beautiful kitchen–we need to utilize it more! I honestly think the struggle isn’t so much as not wanting to cook, rather having the time or the ideas. Our schedule is pretty chaotic between work and Taekwondo practice so we often find ourselves ordering out just for time purposes. The boys of this family are also extremely picky eaters so while I am down to try nearly anything, getting them to do the same is painful.
So I would like to start finding some more good crockpot recipes since those always save us when we have a busy day. I would also like to see if I can start sneaking in some more veggies into meals in a creative way so that I know the boys are getting the nutrition that they need.
As I mentioned before, I truly hope laying this all out and sharing it with you guys helps me manifest these goals this year! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I will see you back here next week to share this year’s Valentine’s/Winter home tour.
