This one was actually a makeover take two. I refinished this piece for our own living room a few years back, but since I decided to keep the dresser that I shared earlier this week we no longer had a spot for it. Here is what it looked like when I first found it on the curb:
And this is what it looked like after I painted the base and created a faux wood look on top:
I never got around to adding the poly acrylic to protect it. Years later with two boys and two dogs it had started to accumulate chips in the paint, so I wanted it to be repainted before I sold it.
I first cleaned it up and then did a scuff sand so that the new paint would adhere.
For the top, I decided that I wanted to try and save the original wood underneath. To remove the paint and varnish I applied a nice thick coat of Citristrip. I put some plastic wrap on top and let it work it magic.
After an hour had passed I went back and scraped which removed most of the finish, and then I used a sander to get what remained.
It’s a grueling process, but usually it’s well worth the effort. Well, not in this case! The wood ended up having a very orange tint to it. I tried several coats of whitewash, but it still didn’t look right to me. Rather than continuing for fuss with it I decided to paint the whole thing!
I also added some white burlap and trim to the drawers for interest and gave it two coats of poly acrylic to seal it all up.
After installing the new pull bars this is how it turned out!
I was so happy with the final look. The color was mixed up using what I had on hand which was BM Pashmina and white. I love how nicely it pairs with the color of the white burlap.
The new pull bars really compliment the entire piece.
This beauty was very quick to find a new home!
I am so happy that you could stop by and join me today! I have one more fun piece from March to share next week, see you all then!
