End Table Set Makeover

August 29, 2024

Happy Thursday friends! Today’s project that I’m sharing was one that I started out super excited about but then quickly started to hate. In the end they turned out decent enough, but OH GEEZ did they test me!

Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience.  For more info, see my full disclosure here.)

  • Sander
  • Primer
  • Paint Sprayer
  • Polyacrylic
  • Screen Molding
  • Bun Feet
  • Glaze
  • Drawer Paper
  • Knobs (similar)

When I first saw these end tables I was immediately drawn to how unique and different they were with the drawer on the bottom.

I started by giving every inch a good deep clean.

I then began sanding down the tops. Even though I knew that they were veneer and I went as slowly as possible, I still had some burn through. But I was convinced that I would be able to fix it so I didn’t worry about it at the time.

I gave the rest of the surfaces a scuff sand to prep for paint.

The drawers needed some character so I decided to add some screen molding in a vertical pattern.

I taped off the tops then applied a coat of primer followed by a couple coats of paint.

Here is where things got tricky. I realized that the burn through was pretty bad and no amount of touch of paint was fixing it. Usually if it’s a small spot I can do a pretty good job of disguising, but these areas were just too huge and my paint tricks were NOT working!

So I threw in the towel and painted them.

I decided to paint the drawers a darker contrasting color and this is how they turned out.

They sat on the market for awhile with no interest, so I decided to go back and add some bun wood feet.

I felt like they helped a bit, but they still did not have any interest. I added some brown glaze to the tops with a chip brush to create a faux wood grain and here is how they ultimately turned out!

I would like to say that third time was the charm, but I noticed that the buyer re-listed them on Marketplace a couple months later. I am hoping that it didn’t have anything to do with not liking them, but you know that’s where my mind went!

I almost didn’t share this flip, but I decided it’s important to share fails and all!
