Boho Inpired Dresser Makeover

October 4, 2024

Hello everyone!

Today’s furniture makeover was one that took a bit of creativity and patience to figure out, but in the end is one of my favorite pieces!

Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience.  For more info, see my full disclosure here.)

  • Sander
  • Bondo
  • Primer
  • Polyacrylic
  • Stain
  • Paint Sprayer
  • 2×2
  • 1×3
  • Knobs
  • Drawer Paper

When I spotted this on Marketplace I was super excited because it was solid wood–which meant no veneer or MDF to struggle with!

After giving the whole thing a good deep clean, I began sanding down the top to raw wood.

Next it was time to figure out what to do with the outdated recessed pulls. I cut down some pieces of scrap wood to fit inside, and then filled in the edges with Bondo.

I wanted to keep some of the wood showing on the drawers, so I sanded the edges down and applied two different strengths of stain before taping them off.

I applied my favorite stain blocking primer, then I mixed up a color creation that looked very pretty in the daylight (more on that in a second) and applied two coats.

I built a custom base using pieces of 2x2s for the legs and 1x3s for the sides and attached it to the bottom. I then stained the base and the top a rich warm brown and applied two coats of polyacrylic to everything.

Here is how it turned out!

You probably cannot tell from these photos, but the paint color here is different than the one I was applying in the picture above.

That is because when I brought it inside at night, it was so dreary and drab! I had to take the hardware off, scuff sand the poly, tape off the wood portions and repaint a lighter color.

It was a bit of extra work, but totally worth it in the end!
