Tall Broken Dresser Gets a Fun Makeover

October 11, 2024

Hello everyone, happy Friday 🙂

When you see the snow in today’s pictures, don’t worry it’s not already snowing here –this is just another long overdue post on a flip that I completed back in January!

  • Sander
  • Bondo
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Polyacrylic
  • Stain
  • Paint Sprayer
  • Pine Trim
  • Nail Gun
  • Knobs
  • Drawer Paper

I found this tall dresser on Marketplace, and when Anthony got it home for me I realized that one of the drawer faces was broken.

Fortunately, since the drawers were dovetailed it was fairly simple to fix with wood glue and clamps so I wasn’t too worried about that.

I started by giving everything a good clean and then began sanding. I sanded the dresser top, top drawers and bottom trim all the way down to the bare wood.

I scuff sanded the areas that would be painted, then wiped everything down and applied a coat of primer.

I decided to attached some pine trim to the bottom drawers for character.

Next I applied a light gray paint, but once it was dried I realized that I hated it! So I rinsed out my paint sprayer and applied a white instead. But that didn’t feel right either. Finally, I chose the color Umber by Dixie Bell which is a rick dark brown.

I removed all of the tape and then stained the wood portions.

I sealed everything with two coats of polyacrylic, then finished up by adding new hardware and drawer paper.

Usually I prefer lighter paint colors, but every now and then a darker color just feels more right for the piece!

This also came with a matching sister that I’ll be sharing with you next!
