One Room Challenge (Week 1): Farmhouse Kitchen Plans

October 3, 2019

Well it’s official, the Fall 2019 One Room Challenge has arrived and as usual I’m a total mixture of nervous and excited! This is my sixth time participating in this amazing event hosted by the lovely Linda at Calling it Home.

I honestly contemplated really hard about whether or not I wanted to work on the kitchen for this challenge. There is so much involved with a kitchen reno and the thought of being on a six week timeline sort of terrifies me. However I’ve been itching to update the kitchen since the day we first stepped foot in this house.

I ultimately decided that the short deadline would be the perfect motivation to finally get working in here!

Since moving we’ve purchased new appliances, installed hardwood floors and most recently installed a farmhouse sink.

The sink is everything I’ve dreamed of and I’m head over heels in love with it! I can’t wait to see how it looks with the new quartz countertops that we plan on installing.

I whipped up this mood board as inspiration for how I want our new kitchen to look.

[Wood Pendant Light] [Pfister Bronze Faucet] [Amber Soap Dispensers] [White Wood Tray] [LG Hausys Viatera Quartz in Cortina] [Fireclay Farmhouse Sink] [Bread Box] [Butcher Block Counter] [White Pitcher] [Tiered Basket] [Aged Iron Pulls] [Aged Iron Knobs] [Eat Wall Sign] [Woven Runner]

The first item on the agenda is to paint the cabinets. If you’ve been around here for awhile I’m sure you can take a wild guess at what color I’m going wit…

I thought about doing gray cabinets or counters for a hot minute, but know that I need to stick to my gut because I’ve loved white kitchens for as long as I can remember!

We’ve already selected this pretty off white quartz for the countertops.

I’m not sure why it looks so creamy in the picture, in real life it’s much more crisp and has a slight gray tone to it. The installers come next Tuesday and words cannot express how excited I am!

I chose to do butcher block on the island rather than quartz. I’m really drawn to dark stains, something like this would be perfect!

I think it will be a nice balance with all the white and will bring some much needed texture and warmth to the space.

We’ll be doing subway tile for the backsplash in true farmhouse style. I will probably go with the same warm gray grout that we used in our last house, but I’ll wait until the countertops are installed so I can see what color looks best with the flecks in it.

I’m prepared for many long nights and lots of take out! I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you!our dream kitchen! See you back here next week with the one week update!
