Hello everyone! The day has come at last and we have finally arrived at the finish line for the One Room Challenge.
This awesome challenge is hosted twice a year by Linda over at Calling It Home. Designers have just SIX short weeks to transform an entire room. Although the deadline is tough to meet, it is absolutely wonderful to have the encouragement from fellow bloggers and to know that you aren’t alone in this crazy challenge!

Ok. So to truly appreciate how far this room has come I like to look back at what our builder grade bathroom looked like when we first purchased our home 3 years ago.
I painted the vanity a dark espresso, refinished the countertop with Rust-Oleum Counter Top Transformations
It was a nice step up from how it was, but my style has changed over the last 3 years and I was really craving a bright and cheerful farmhouse style bathroom.
After 6 weeks of late nights, hard work and loads of paint this is our new farmhouse master bathroom!
As much as I would have loved to do a total demo and replace everything, I also wanted to spend as little as possible. So I made do with what we had and got creative!
The first thing that I did was paint the existing vanity white using some leftover semi gloss paint that I had. The color is called Polar Bear by Behr and it’s a really warm and bright white.
I even ripped off the cheap vinyl strip along the base of the vanity and replaced it with some 1×4 MDF. It looks so crisp and clean now!
I also added some shiplap to create some architectural interest and to achieve a farmhouse feel.
The last major thing that I did was update the flooring. I just used some peel and stick vinyl planks that look like wood and the whole bathroom cost me a whopping 35 bucks. Pretty crazy, right?
I shared a tutorial on this flooring when I installed it in the boys’ bathroom that you can read here but I took a ton more pictures this time around so I will be adding an updated one soon with more details–so stay tuned for that! (***updated tutorial can now be found here***)
When it came to accessorizing I wanted to make things functional since we use this space on a daily basis. I added wire baskets on the wall to store extra towels and replaced the towel bar with some industrial hooks on a wood board.
The vintage soap & water sign above the towels is hands down my favorite item in the entire room. Which is surprising because I actually didn’t plan on putting anything in that spot initially.
I also wanted to keep the vanity functional so I added this awesome tray to corral our daily use items.
I even added a cute little cement trinket dish to hold my jewelry that used to be scattered all over the counter.
This pretty cement planter is perfect for holding washcloths.
I replaced the hand towel holder with this DIY pipe one (tutorial soon to come!) and the hubby appreciates that it adds a little bit of masculinity to balance out the ruffled shower curtain haha.
The stone soap and lotion pumps are the coolest and were a last minute order but I am so glad that they made it in time for the reveal.
Okay, time for the numbers. I had mentioned that my budget was $300. I may have gone just a little bit over that numer. I actually came in around $500. However I decided to splurge on the new linen closet baskets, fancy glass canisters and new towels after my initial planning. So if you take those items out I am at $319. So not too bad!
