Front Flower Bed Makeover

July 15, 2015

Hello everyone! Thank you for bearing with me during me during my rough first trimester. I’m finally over the 24/7 morning sickness and am starting to get a little bit of energy back. So that means it’s time to get back to working on projects!

Two weekends ago I got the sudden motivation to rip out the front flowerbed. (Yes, I did this two weekends ago and I’m just now posting about it. Hey, I said I’m getting a little bit of energy back!). It was a small quick project, but after doing nothing for the last 2 months it felt like a huge achievement.

This is the mess that was on the side of our front porch. It was probably pretty at one time, but it had become super overgrown and just plain sad looking. The pretty yellow flowers in the corner are my newly purchased violas!

I started by ripping out everything that was there. I then dug a hole for each perinnial. I eventually want to switch out the red brick for something fancier, but I’ll save that for another day.

I popped the perennials in the ground and voilà–we now have a nice clean flower bed!

I still need to add mulch which will also help cover up the jagged cement along the bottom of the porch. The sad thing is thing that we already have some, it’s just on a high shelf and I keep forgetting to have the hubby pull it down for me.

Looking at the red bricks in these pictures really makes me want to switch them out! But I must prioritize, especially since I have a big boy room and a new nursery to work on. I’ll put it on the list for next summer.

Oh and please ignore our poor grass that has been neglected while I laid on the couch feeling miserable. I’m working on it!

I love the way the pink petunias look with the yellow violas. Such a pretty combination! Let’s just hope my black thumb can actually keep this things alive long enough to make it to next year.

It’s not perfect, but definitely a step up from what it used to look like. Here’s a comparison one more time:

Sooooo much cleaner! I’ve been working on a furniture makeover for the last few days (funny, normal me can bust out a furniture makeover in a day haha!) that I’ll be sharing soon so stay tuned for that. Have a great day! 🙂
