This month the weather usually starts staying nice, the trees start blooming, we have our wedding anniversary and my birthday. I just love this month 🙂

Today I want to share a quick and easy project that helped tame one of my pet peeves. My husband will confirm that I’m a huge neat freak, HUGE! And if I had to pick one thing that drives me most nuts about the living room, it would be the blankets that are always crumpled up all over the place.

Back in the day I would just drape them on the couch. But they would always slide around or fall off and it made my skin crawl.

So then I got this huge basket from World Market (love that place!) and decided to roll the blankets up and keep them in there. It worked for awhile, until everyone got tired of rolling them up or didn’t roll them up pretty enough. Yep, I’m that much of a perfectionist.

Finally I started seeing blanket ladders all over blog land and realized what an amazing solution this would be to my problem. Plus I love the way they that look!

The supply list for this project is super short, as is the assembly time.

2 2x3s cut at 6′
3 1 1/4″ wood dowels cut at 18″
3″ wood screws
Paint or stain

The wood dowels were actually left over from some curtain rods I had cut down but I’ve seen them sold at Home Depot. Or you could use 1x3s.

We began by carefully drilling a hole in center of each dowel on each side.

I then marked out where each ladder rung should be on the 2x3s. I put the first one 6″ from the top, and the other two 22″ apart.

We drilled a pilot hole at each mark and started the 3″ wood screw before attaching each dowel.

I painted it a flat white and added one coat of polycrylic. The whole project took about 30 minutes total. So easy!

Most people just rest the ladder against the wall, but since I have a wild little human running around, I want to attach it to the wall.

I screwed picture hangers onto the top of each 2×3 and plan to screw in some hooks to the wall for them to attach to, just haven’t gotten to that part yet!
