Hello friends—I hope your October is off to a great start! I’ve been insanely busy trying to finish up a few furniture makeovers and get some family fall activities squeezed in before we leave for our trip later this month. It’s been a tad stressful over here to say the least but we are getting through it!
Today I am sharing a dresser makeover that I finished over the summer that was unique and different and I absolutely love how it turned out.

When I first spotted this on Marketplace I was immediately drawn to how different the shape was.
Even though it was laminate I decided to take it on because with a fun design like that how could it not turn out beautifully?!
I started by cleaning every nook and cranny with Simple Green, then gave everything a scuff sand to rough it up and prepare it for paint.
I cleaned all of the sanding dust off and then applied a coat of shellac primer to all of the surfaces.
The next day I started installing vertical trim to the bottom drawers with the help of my little assistant.
We used wood glue, a level and the nail gun to secure them. Some of them went on a little crooked but we were able to hammer them straight before the wood glue dried!
Once those were on we were finally ready for some paint! I decided to paint everything but the top drawers a light neutral cream color.
I decided to paint the top drawers a contrasting darker color for some interest. After all of the paint was on I went over it with a fine grit sandpaper to smooth it all out since my sprayer decided to be spitty in a few spots.
I sprayed two coats of polyacrylic to protect it.
I used Rub n Buff on some old knobs that I had on hand and some new card catalog pulls and this is how it turned out!
The two tone was such a good call and I love how it highlights the top drawers and drawers your eye upward.
I also feel like the simple trim that I added to the bottom drawers really added some fun character.
I lined all of the drawers with this pretty boho style paper which tied both of the paint colors together nicely.
I am so happy that you stopped by today, have a happy weekend!
