DIY Seashell Decor

January 21, 2015

Wow, is it really Wednesday already?! I know I said I would be back yesterday with my progress on the board and batten but I got swept away with some of life’s other concerns. But I am actually getting close to being done so I’ll save it all for the big reveal next week!

Today I’m going to share how I made some cheap DIY art for our beach themed basement. I haven’t gotten around to showing you the basement yet because it is currently somewhat of a man cave between the hubby and his friend that is living with us. One day I will bring my visions for that space to life though. I will!! *tears* haha…

Besides being super cheap, this is also super simple.

I started with a basic shadow box frame. I think this one was $10 from Target but I’m sure you could probably find them for even cheaper online or at a thrift store.

I then picked out some pretty metallic cardstock paper from Joann’s and used double sided sticky tape to attach it to the back of the shadow box. I also got some burlap type of cardstock from Joann’s (don’t you just love it??) and attached a small square to the center.

The seashell could be one or several that you picked up on vacation. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby and I spray painted them white so that they were uniform. I used hot glue to attach it to the burlap square.

Here are the finished products! I chose 3 different beachy colors for the paper and a different shell for each.

By the way these were almost impossible to photograph without a huge reflection. Did you get a little glimpse of my board and batten in the reflection of that last picture :)?

I hung them up behind the couch in the basement, and they totally add that coastal charm that I was looking for. I hope to be able to show you the basement one day soon.

(Oh and now that I see how these look against a planked wall I think I’m going to have to do a planked wall down there!)

Linking up to these awesome parties!
