Hello there and happy Friday-eve my friends! Today is Tristan’s 7th birthday–holy moly I have a 7 year old! I feel like we just celebrated his 6th birthday not too long ago and I can’t believe a whole year has already passed. He has grown so much both physically and mentally this past year and I’m so extremely proud of my little man and excited to celebrate with him!
Since I’ve been busy planning and preparing for his birthday party this weekend, I don’t have anything too exciting to share with you guys. However I did finally tackle the kitchen junk drawers so I thought I would pop in really quick to show you all how quick and easy the process is.
I feel like most people have a least one of these drawers in their kitchen. We actually have 3! There’s the two in the island…

And then one under the microwave that we actually didn’t even realize existed until several months after we moved in. Once we did, we didn’t waste much time before quickly filling it with junk.

I usually have to go through and organize them at least 2-3 times a year–seriously why are these drawers so difficult to keep tidy?! Whenever it gets to the point where it’s difficult to close and stuff starts to fall in to the cabinets underneath, I use that as my queue that it’s time haha.
I always begin by taking everything out–every. single. thing. Of course this step is the most overwhelming and shocking–I always find myself asking how on earth did all of that stuff fit inside there?

There’s two ways to do this, you could dump it all in to one big pile and sort it out from there, or you could sort as you pull it out which is what I tend to do. Make piles of like things and separate them if they go somewhere else like the garage or a bedroom. I used the top of the island for the island drawers and the kitchen counters for the other one. I usually find that a lot of it ends up in the trash bag or shred pile.

Once everything is out I vacuum the drawers out and then place the organizers in. I actually picked up a few more from the dollar store in hopes that they will help me keep them organized for longer.

Finally, I place the items that are staying in the bins. I made sure to put only the things that are absolutely necessary back inside since I find that we do a better job of keeping a drawer that is relatively empty free from clutter.

It’s like a breath of fresh air and it’s so nice to be able to find things that we need quickly and easily.

Riveting content this week I know, but hopefully this helps you get a glimpse into my simple organizing process and can possibly help inspire some of you to tackle those junk drawers. I promise you’ll feel so much better after you do!
Have a safe and happy weekend my friends, I’ll be back next week to share this month’s Thrift Store Challenge project! 🙂
