New Tile in the Powder Room!

August 29, 2018

Hello and happy Wednesday everyone! Are you all getting ready for the upcoming three day weekend?  I know it’s still a few days away, but I sure am.  We have some out of town friends coming to stay with us, so I anticipate that we will be quite busy but will have loads of fun!

So our powder room/laundry room has been sitting in a half demoed state for the last two months.  Yes you read that right…two whole months now.

When we first purchased our new home this past spring we had eventually planned on renovating this entire room from floor up since it was pretty outdated.

Keyword there was eventually.  It was pretty close to the bottom of the priority list so we didn’t have plans of touching it anytime soon.  But life apparently had plans of it’s own, because just a couple of weeks after moving in the washing machine flooded the entire space.

The restoration company came in and started the demo process for us by ripping out the flooring, the baseboard and the vanity since it all had water damage.  Thus we were pretty much forced to start the makeover sooner rather than later.

And it sat like this (minus the fans of course) up until last week.

Choosing the floor tile was acutally very simple and quick.  I’ve dreamed of using black and white vintage style tile for the last couple of years, so when I spotted the MSI Paloma Encaustic tile I was sold immediately.

However I debated for what seemed like forever on whether or not we should hire out for the install.

The only tile work that we’ve ever done was our kitchen backsplash in the last house.  This is a really high traffic area and we’re already feeling super overwhelmed with other projects, so we decided to hire.  I can’t say that I feel even the slightest bit guilty about it because he did SUCH a good job!

This is how the space looked the night before the install after the hubby and his friend removed the toilet, washer and dryer.

And here is how it looked just two days later!

It may not seem like much, but after months of walking on an ugly subfloor it has been life changing to have floors in here again.  Let alone ones as pretty as these!  It has helped me feel about a million times better and more inspired now than ever to complete this room makeover.
When I look back at the early before picture compared to now I feel like I can see my vision so much more clearly!
Over the last few days I’ve been working on the shiplap with hopes to have at least the washer/dryer area done by this weekend so that we can put them back in and get some laundry done.

Once that is done, it will be time to install the new toilet and vanity and we will finally have a fully functional bathroom.  It’s funny that one of the things we disliked the most about the house that we moved from was that there was no main level bathroom. At least we’re used to it, right?!

Thank you so much for stopping by today my friends, I hope you all have an absolutely amazing Labor Day weekend!
