One Room Challenge (Week 3) : New Countertops!

October 17, 2019

And just like that we are already at the halfway point! Usually I’m big anxious mess at week three, but I’m happy to announce that I actually feel pretty good right now!

In case you’re swinging by for the first time let me catch you up. We’ve been living in our fixer upper for a little over a year now and have yet to touch the dated kitchen.

I decided to use this season of the One Room Challenge to finally tackle it! You can find the previous week’s updates here:

  • One Room Challenge (Week 1): Farmhouse Kitchen Plans
  • One Room Challenge (Week 2): Cabinet Progress

Last week I mentioned that the new countertops were scheduled to install this week, so on Sunday night I moved all of the stuff out of the base cabinets as requested by the install company and put it all in the front room.

It was at this point that I realized that we have entirely too much stuff that we don’t ever use! Before I put it all back the next day I went through a much needed purge.

One last look at the old laminate counters before the hubby ripped them off..

Walking in to the kitchen the next morning it felt so bare!

And here are the stunning new, off white quartz countertops!

I’ll get some up close pics to share with you guys soon. They have really pretty subtle gray flecks and I couldn’t be happier with them!

I got the knobs on the drawers, we are still waiting for our hinges to be delivered before we can hang the cabinet doors up.

I decided to add shiplap to the side of the end cabinet and am really excited with how it’s turning out so far.

I also added shiplap to the island and just need to add some trim to the sides and the base.

Pretty good progress right?! Oh we also installed the new hood vent, although I forgot to snap a picture of it.

Okay let’s take a look at the list.

WEEK 4 (OCTOBER 17 – OCTOBER 23)

  • Install craftsman window trim
  • Install hood vent cover
  • Install backsplash
  • Finish island makeover

WEEK 5 (OCTOBER 14 – OCTOBER 30)

  • Install butcher block on island
  • install new lighting

WEEK 6 (OCTOBER 31 – NOVEMBER 6)

  • Accessorize
  • Photograph and write up reveal post!

Thanks for swinging by today, I can’t wait to show you guys the progress on the backsplash next week!

There is nothing like cleaning out all the cabinets and drawers to help you see just how much you really do have! The kitchen is coming along great!
