Hey guys, happy Thanksgiving Eve! I hope you’re all having fun getting ready for Turkey day.
Today I’ve joined up with a couple of my fellow blogger friends for a fun furniture upcyle challenge. I’m super excited to share what we came up with! At the end of this post, I’ll link up their awesome projects so you can hop over to their blogs to check out what they did!
Okay, let’s meet my lucky contestant.
My good friend actually picked this guy up from a thrift store and had started to sand the multiple paint coats off of it, but ultimately decided that it wouldn’t work for what she had intended. Instead of taking it back to a thrift store she passed it on to me!
It sat in the garage for almost an entire year because I dread painting fine details like table legs with a brush. Seriously–I absolutely loathe it! But I recently became a proud owner of a paint sprayer so I decided that it was time to give this guy a makeover!
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
- Krud Kutter
- Paint Sprayer
- Latex Paint
- Valspar Dark Sealing Wax
- Microfiber Cloths
Before starting to paint it, I went around and wiped it down with Krud Kutter to remove the debris that it had collected while sitting in the garage.
Then I grabbed my paint sprayer and assembled it.
I actually painted the top first without thinking, so I set it on my painter’s pyramid stands so that I could get the underside without waiting for it to dry.
It would normally have taken me at least 45 minutes to paint this table by hand, but thanks to the sprayer it took me maybe 10 minutes.
Once it was dry I applied some valspar dark sealing wax to the top with a microfiber rag. When applied over paint, it starts to make it look like wood.
I lightly dry brushed some white paint on the top to make it look weathered also decided to dry brush the legs.
This is how it turned out!
If you’ve been following along for awhile you know that the wax and dry brush technique is my favorite way to create the faux wood look. It’s so simple and realistic!
It looks great in our front room and I can’t wait to dress it up for Christmas!
Be sure to take a look at what what my lovely friends came up with for this challenge!

That is beautiful! I think I need to invest in a paint sprayer of my own; I have lots of projects piling up because I just dread brushwork.

Yes you totally should! I always thought they would be so hard to use but was happy to find out how easy it was!
