Happy Wednesday friends! We’ve been experiencing some super frigid weather here in Colorado over the past few days and it’s been tough to get through. However I know that it’s nothing compared to what’s going on down south right now. My heart goes out to you guys and I hope you all get some normalcy very soon.
During these cold winter months I crave cozy. Give me ALLLL of the throw pillows and blankets! One of the places that I like to make extra cozy is our bed. So today I thought it would be fun to share my tips on how I make our bed. I’m not an expert by any means, but these are the tips that I’ve picked up over the years to create a comfy magazine worthy bed.
Let’s get right to it!
1. Flat Sheet
I start by smoothing the flat sheet out and tucking it nice and tight on the sides so that there’s no bunching. (I’m obsessed with these super soft ones from ienjoy Home The Farmhouse Chic Collection. The Paisley design ones are my favorite!)
2. Flat Sheet
Next, I toss the flat sheet on and tuck the bottom under the mattress.
It took me a long time to find out that the “correct” way to lay a flat sheet is to lay it with the front facing down. I did it wrong for so many years haha! You’ll see why in a second. I pull it all the way up to the very top of the bed.
3. Comforter
I know duvets are all the rage nowadays, but I think I’ll always be a sucker for a nice pretty comforter. This Ruched Comforter Set has lasted us over FOUR years! I machine wash it in hot water and lay it flat to dry and it still looks just as good as the day we got it. I pull it all the way up to the top of the bed over the flat sheet.
4. Fold
Then, I fold the flat sheet and the comforter both down one third of the way down the bed. See how we can admire the pretty pattern on the sheet now? That’s part of the reason it should be laid face down, the other reason is because this side of the sheet is just ever so slightly softer so it’s nice to have next to your body when you’re inside the bed.
You can either leave it like this or fold it back up one time if you want to create a fluffier look.
5. Euro Pillows
The first pillows that go up in front of the headboard are the euro pillows. I’ve noticed that these have recently been trending out a bit and a lot of designers are just using sleeping pillows at the back of the bed. However I love the height and extra cushion that they provide. I use 3 for our King sized bed.
I made DIY Euro Pillows a few years ago, but now there are some really pretty options on Amazon to choose from if you prefer to go that route.
6. Sleeping Pillows
Next I prop our sleeping pillows up in front of the euro pillows, first the patterned sheets ones followed by the shams.
7. Lumbar Pillow
And finally, I add a large lumbar pillow in front. I recently got this Oversized Striped Lumbar Throw Pillow from the Hearth and Hand line. Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the soft colors and how how long it is.
8. Throw Blanket
And for the final cozy factor, I drape a throw blanket at the bottom of the bed. The one that we have is no longer in stock, but it’s very similar to this one.
The hubby likes to crank the thermostat so we rarely need to pull it up over us, but it’s nice to have when it’s extra chilly and I love the visual texture that it adds.
Here is how it looks all together!
It just seems to scream to me, “climb on in!”
I hope this helps any of you that may be stumped on how to set up the perfect bed. Have a happy rest of the week 🙂
