Hey guys! How crazy is it that we are already almost halfway through August?! The kids go back to school next week and I feel like their summer vacation just flew by so fast. Luckily, they are more than ready and excited to get back to their friends and into learning so I can’t be too sad.
If you’ve been following along my stories on Instagram you are probably aware that I’ve recently become obsessed with giving our master bedroom a new look. Since finishing up Tristan’s room makeover I haven’t had much going on around here, and I started to really crave a project. Our big living room makeover is in the works for this fall, but I needed something to tide me over until then! So I started brainstorming what I could work on and our master bedroom is what I ended up with.
Shortly after we moved in you may recall that I installed board and batten in a grid pattern along the back wall.
I painted it the traditional white and then painted all of the other walls Basalt Powder by Sherwin Williams.
After three years, I felt like the white didn’t really accentuate the beauty of that wall, and started to wonder if painting it a different color would make it pop a little more. So I picked up some paint chips in different shades of warm gray and taped them up there.
I immediately narrowed it down to Sherwin Williams Requisite Gray and Alpaca which are the bottom two colors on the second strip. After looking at them throughout the day in different lighting, I felt pretty confident that Alpaca was the winner so the next day I had a quart of it mixed up and tested it out on the wall.
However as soon as I did, I started to question if it was too light behind the headboard. Since I already had a sample pot of Requisite Gray on hand I put some of that up there as well.
Requisite Gray is actually the color that we have on our exterior (hence why I had a sample pot of it already laying around!)
Crazy how much lighter it looks outdoors, isn’t it? Anyways, after much debate I decided to stick with my initial instinct that I had with Alpaca and this is how it turned out.
I think it’s quite the refresh!
I’m glad that I stuck with the lighter color because I really wanted to keep this space feeling open and airy and I feel that any darker would have been too dramatic and not what I was looking for.
It’s so refreshing and fun to see a color other than white on this wall.
I debated leaving the other walls Basalt Powder since it was a very light color that coordinated well, however I ultimately decided to paint them Sherwin Williams White Cotton. It’s a nice clean white that isn’t too stark and goes nicely with the existing trim.
I decided to paint the sunburst mirror white so that it would stand out better on the new wall color, however I didn’t love how that looked so I actually built a new one this week and left it unstained.
Of course as soon as I hung it up I started questioning staining it, so I’m going to leave it for a few days and think about it. It really stands out as it now, but does it stand out too much?
I also decided to switch up the art on the nightstands so I headed to Hobby Lobby and walked out with two different sets of botanical prints.
My intent was to set them both up separately to see which one looked better, but I’ve decided that I like the stacked look of both of them. The hubby thinks it’s too busy, so the jury is still out and I may be returning one set.
Anyone else find themselves wanting to redecorate all the things after putting up new paint?! I’m now considering reupholstering the headboard and bench, and then I’ve also been looking at different rug options. This always happens to me haha.
I’ve honestly been really up and down with my emotional state lately and sometimes a little busy work and some fresh surroundings are all I need to ground myself!
Alright let’s take a quick peek at a before and after!
Different, but not too different! It sort of reminds me of one of those “find the differences” games haha. I’m so happy that you could join me today, I hope you all have a great end to your week and a wonderful weekend 🙂
