Hello everyone! Today we kick off the spring season of the One Room Challenge® and this is an exciting one because it is the 10th anniversary! It’s amazing to think about how many spaces have been transformed over the past ten years with the help of this challenge, isn’t it?
The room that I originally wanted to work on falls out of our budget right now. It was going to be Lucas’ bedroom and since I have some amazing plans for his special space, I am going to hold off until the Fall when we have a better budget to work with.
I was going to skip this season all together, however I realized that I actually have a small list of projects for the kitchen that have been building up for a while that I have kept putting off. Since I know that being a part of this challenge always provides me with a ton of motivation, I decided that it would be perfect to put all of those ideas together for a little kitchen refresh!
Some of you may recall when I participated in the 2019 Fall season of the One Room Challenge to give our dated kitchen a fresh modern look.
Over the last couple of years there have been things that I have wanted to add (or change!) and I am so excited to finally make them happen.
The first thing that I plan to tackle are the lower cabinets. Although having all white cabinets has made the space nice and bright, I have really been wanting to try the two-tone look. I’m thinking that a nice mushroom color like Jenna Sue used would look stunning.
I may go slightly grayer so that it blends with the backsplash tile grout, but I think it’s going to look so fun to see a different color in here.
Next up on the list is adding a wood beam along the front of the kitchen. This one from The Weathered Fox made is gorgeous and I like the look of the metal straps.
I think it will break up the space nicely and I’ve always loved the look of beams.
I would also like to replace the big wood clock that we have on the side wall with some floating shelves.
And finally, I am eager to build up the cabinets like Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick did in her kitchen. I have always envisioned building uppers and putting glass doors on front, however the hubby has brought up a good point that keeping them clean from grease and dust would be a real chore.
I like the idea of having that empty space look more finished and I also want to throw in some lights like Sarah did to make it feel even more custom.
All of these tasks are pretty budget friendl and I can’t wait to share the progress with you guys over the next 8 weeks!
