Hello everyone, happy Friday! I feel like this week sailed by extremely fast since we’ve been super busy preparing for Tristan’s 10th birthday this weekend. Which by the way, I still haven’t come to terms with the fact that my baby is hitting double digits!!
Today I am sharing something fun that I added to our stairs. As you may recall we re-did the treads a couple of years ago, however I have found that keeping the white treads clean is really difficult to do.
A couple of weeks ago I was cleaning the risers with a magic eraser for what felt like the one millionth time, when I remembered seeing stair decals awhile back. After browsing the many options, I finally decided on these herringbone ones. Besides the simple design, I really liked the fact that they were made with a waterproof vinyl–aka easy to clean!
I was so excited when they arrived that I decided to install them that same day!
I first cleaned the risers well with some Simple Green and water to make sure that they were ready for the decals, then started peeling and sticking! Our bottom steps are slightly longer since they used to be curved, so I skipped those initially thinking that I would need to order more to do some sort of fancy splicing on those.
Fortunately, I found that the color of the white on the decal matches the white on the steps (which is just an un-tinted, straight out of the Valspar can white) so it didn’t really matter! If you look closely, you can see where they stop, but who is really going to do that, right?
They add such fun character to the steps!
They have been up for almost two months now with no peeling issues and I think it’s because I made sure that the risers were SUPER clean before installing.
So far I haven’t even had to wipe them down, it’s like they are magically repelling dirt! I’m sure that will change when the boys start tracking muddy snow boots up the stairs. Even though I try to get them to take shoes off as they come inside that rarely happens–at least they will be easy to clean now!
I am so happy with how this turned out and I wish I would have discovered these sooner! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, see you next week!
