Hello and happy Tuesday! Here in Colorado we’ve been enjoying a nice Fool’s Spring but that is about to change tomorrow so I’m really soaking in the sunshine today!
Today I’m sharing a quick end table makeover that I did last fall. I debated even doing a post on them since they were so simple, however I realized that these tables are quite common and it was so easy to modernize that I wanted to share in case you happen to run across a pair (or maybe even have a pair of your own already!)
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
(This may be one of the shortest supply list ever!)
I found these oak beauties on Marketplace and immediately knew that despite their worn orange finish, they had the potential to be modernized.
I started by cleaning them up well with some Simple Green.
I then worked on sanding down the tops to the raw wood—check out that gorgeous light oak that was hiding under there!
Next, it was time to scuff sand the bases. The goal was to get the shine off so that the paint would adhere nicely. I attached a foam pad to my orbital so that I could easily get around the curves on the legs.
Once the sanding was complete, I wiped them all clean and applied a coat of primer to the bases. This not only helps the paint stick, it also stain blocks since oak is one of those woods notoriously known for tanin bleed through.
I let that work its magic overnight, and the next day I began painting.
In between coats I worked on the tops. I originally applied a coat of tan paint wash to each of them.
However once I reattached them to the bases, I decided that they were way too light! I went back and added a coat of stain for some more contrast and it was soooo much better. Here a blurry picture from my IG stories to give you an idea of the difference!
I sprayed two coats of polyacylic to protect them and this is how they turned out!
These tables are so gorgeous and I absolutely love their new modern look!
It seems like it’s hard to find solid wood nowadays and I’m so happy they I was able to rescue these and give them a new life!
Have a fantastic day everyone!
