Hello and welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge! If you missed week 1 where I announced the plans for our master bedroom refresh, you can catch that here:
When we first moved in to this house we installed a board and batten grid accent wall behind our bed (tutorial here). I originally painted it white, but a few years ago I got bored with it and changed it to SW Alpaca.
For this refresh I was wanting to see a moody rich color up there. I began looking for a deep rich brown without any purple or red undertones. I started with about 20 paint chips on the wall, then I eventually narrowed it down to my top three and got samples. I the put a poll up on Instagram for help on the decision.
From left to right: SW Stone Satue/SW Tiki Hut/SW Coastline Tan
The winner was the darkest one, but at night it looked nearly black. I also felt like the middle was a bit too dark, so I ultimately chose the lightest—Coastline Tan!
With the color was finally chosen, I began removing everything away from the wall, which was actually a lot more work than I thought it would be!
I spackled the holes left behind from our old headboard and mirror above the bed before getting started.
I mentioned last week that I’ve painted this wall twice before and know what a pain it is to roll and brush, so I wanted to attempt spraying it instead.
I taped off the surrounding walls to protect it from paint overspray using this pre-taped plastic which is one of the coolest inventions ever!
I found it easiest to apply with my helper!
Once the surrounding walls were protected, it was time to load up the sprayer!
I have been using this simple sprayer by Wagner for the past two years and it has served me very well. As I always do when I spray, I wore my trusty respirator mask so that I didn’t breathe in any paint particles.
It was so satisfying to spray the paint on and I was able to get each coat done in a matter of minutes!
There were a couple of places I didn’t attach the plastic down well enough so I’ll have to back to touch up, but it still beats rolling and brushing!
I am so happy with the new color, it’s already giving this space a whole new feeling!
I got hit with a nasty head cold Saturday afternoon, but I’m finally on the mend so this week I’ll be working on these nightstands! I picked them up a couple of weeks ago and I have fun plans for them, so stay tuned for that!
You can see the progress that the other participants have made here. See you next week!
