Hello and happy Tuesday everyone! Thanks for stopping by today.

I’ve noticed that I am the type of person that once I get the ball rolling on something there is no slowing me down. That means that when I am doing a room makeover I find myself needing to make every square inch beautiful.

So while I was working on our master bathroom makeover our rusted shower caddy simply HAD to go.

I mean I couldn’t truly enjoy our pretty new space if I had to stare at this grossness every day, am I right?

I’m actually being WAY nice by only showing you this picture, there were parts of this thing that were even nastier!

Now don’t get me wrong–I am ALL FOR the rusted look when it comes to vintage farmhouse style décor. Love it. However that look wasn’t working too well on the shower caddy. Especially when it started to bleed rust on to our tub. Eeek!!

I originally started looking for a new one to purchase and began finding out that a lot of them were advertised as having a “rust free” finish. That’s when a lightbulb went off and I realized that my favorite metal finish spray paint is rust free!

I absolutely love this stuff. I have used it on more things than I can count! It can be used for indoor or outdoor projects, doesn’t need a primer and can be used directly over rust. All total wins in my book.

I laid it out on a drop cloth and sprayed the first side, let it dry and then turned it on its other side. I also stood it up to get those little spots that I missed when it was on its sides.

You could always tape the black rubber pieces off if you want to but as you can see I just painted them as well.

And just like that we had an (almost) new shower caddy!

It’s been a couple of months now and still no sign of rust! I’m not sure why they don’t make all shower caddies rust free from the start–maybe it’s a marketing strategy to make you go out and buy a new one every year or so? I’m not entirely sure!

There are so many colors of spray paint out there so the possibilities are endless. I was still pretty happy with silver but I debated doing oil rubbed bronze for a minute!

If you have a shower caddy (or any other item for that matter) that is starting to show rust remember that you can save it with a nice coat of spray paint instead of sending it off to the landfill!
