I found this set on Marketplace and I could already tell from the pictures that they had been previously painted, but they seemed to have good bones and were screaming for an update!
The first thing that I wanted to do was use my jigsaw to remove the little dangles on the base to modernize it.
Once those were off I started removing hardware and cleaning—these poor things were quite filthy!
And then…I stopped filming or photographing haha! I am not sure why, but I am assuming I just got so caught up that I spaced it out. I grabbed some screenshots from IG stories to help explain the rest of the process, so please excuse the poor quality!
I originally wanted to keep the tops as wood so I sanded the veneer all the way down, but when I got to the back of this one I realized that there was a lot of peeling damage that couldn’t be salvaged and the only solution was Bondo.
I was able to sand the bases down to the bare wood and then did a scuff sand on everything to smooth the previous brush strokes and to rough it up for paint. I taped off the bases and then applied a coat of primer and a couple coats of paint.
The wood on one of the bases had a funny little spot that I assumed was a strange knot. After scratching my head and trying to figure out what to do I ended up using a chisel to chip most of it out. I then used some wood filler which helped disguise it the best that I could.
I wanted to add something fun to the top drawers so I used wood glue to attach some craft sticks.
Once they were attached I trimmed them out with small wood trim that I painted to match the body.
Here is how they turned out!
The wood accents really made these pop so I decided that wood floral knobs would be a nice compliment.
These sturdy little beauties were quickly off to their new home!
Thanks for swinging by, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
