Big transformations and projects are great and all, but I think that the small, quick, use-what-you have projects are just as awesome.
This past weekend I decided that we needed a new centerpiece on our dining room table. After browsing a few pictures online I started seeing a lot of planter style boxes and learned that I absolutley needed one. Like immediately!
I never throw away scrap wood, because you never know when you could use it, and this is a prime example!
You won’t believe how easy this was to make π
I found a few pieces of 1x4s and cut three equal in length.
I used wood glue to attach them together like this.
Then I measured out two pieces for the sides, glued them on and pressed bricks against all four sides until it dried.
As you can see, my cuts weren’t perfect (they rarely are!) but I just used a little bit of wood filler where needed.
Once the wood filler was dry, I sanded it down and applied two coats of white paint. And voilΓ !
I originally envisioned something longer, but I didn’t have long enough scraps. I think it worked out to be the perfect size for our table though.
To dress it up for spring I added three bud vases (from the dollar store), some moss (also from the dollar store) and a few faux spring blossoms.
I love that it can be changed out to fit any season, I’m already thinking about summer and fall arrangements that I can do in here haha.
But for now I’m enjoying the cheerful and light touch of Spring it adds to the space.
For Easter I added a couple of speckled eggs that I made on a whim out of white plastic eggs and brown paint.
Yep, I’m pretty excited about my planter box. Even better that I didn’t have to spend a dime π It pays to keep those scraps peeps!
This weekend we’re finally going start on the kitchen backsplash (gasp!!). We’ve only talked about it you know, for almost a year haha. I think I finally worked up my courage on this one, lets just hope it isn’t a total disaster! I’ll be back on Monday to share our progress.
As always, thanks for swinging by! Have a great day π
