Neutral Farmhouse Playroom: Week 2 Progress

April 9, 2020

Hello everyone! We are chugging right along on the neutral farmhouse playroom makeover. In case you missed the big announcement last week I revealed that I decided to tackle the playroom in order to keep me busy and feeling positive during these crazy times. I shared the plans that I have for this space in this post.

As a reminder, this is what we started with.

The first order of business was to remove the dreaded carpet. We cleared out the room and then got right to work.

It was sooooo liberating to roll that disgusting carpet up and haul it out of here! After removing the staples we used a broom to sweep them all up.

And ran the shop vac to make sure we got absolutely everything!

While Anthony worked on laying the underlayment, I took everything down from the built ins and began to prep them for the primer.

I first used a deglosser and a scrubbing sponge to get the shine off. I had left over from a cabinet painting kit but it can also be found on Amazon.

Next, I scrubbed everything down with Krud Kutter to remove the deglosser residue as well as any dirt.

Anthony got started on laying the hardwood flooring…

While I took the shelves out front and began deglossing and cleaning them. I used the hose to spray them down and propped them against the house in the sun to dry.

Ready to see where we are as of last night?

Wonderful progress!

I chose to paint the back of the built ins a warm gray and I am loving the contrast. I still need one more coat of white paint, but am already so happy with the results. Also, I tried to freehand the white against the gray and it didn’t go so well so I am going to use some painters tape to get a crisper line.

The floors are alllllmost done! I am preemptively celebrating by rolling out the rug I ordered.

It’s the Nuloom Moroccan Blythe in the 6’7″ x 9″ size and I’m absolutely smitten with it!

It may not look like much, but I’m already starting to see this space transform into something brand new and I’m so excited for the next steps which includes installing the board and batten and painting the shelves.

I’ll be back next week to share some more progress! Hang in there my friends <3
