Hello friends! Sorry for the radio silence last week–I actually had a really fun post planned but my SD card was absolutely nowhere to be found. Luckily the hubby found it for me by Friday night and it was just in time for me to capture the photos for this month’s Thrift Store Challenge!
The Rules:
- Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
- There’s no monthly theme.
- There’s no budget to stick to.

On Saturday I put my mask on and headed to the thrift store for the first time in months. As someone who frequented there a couple times a month it felt very strange to be back. They also moved locations so it took me awhile to get a feel for the new layout too. After a bit of browsing I finally decided on this cute cork board.
It was pretty cute as is but I had an even better idea for it!
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
- 1/8″ Hardboard
- Vaseline
- White Latex Paint
- Sanding Block
- Black Chalk Paint
I began by hammering out the corkboard and then traced it out on some hardboard.
After cutting out the new back on the saw I gave it two coats of black chalk paint.
While that was drying I applied small bits of Vaseline on the cutting board where I didn’t want the paint to stick.
After two coats of white paint I went back over it with a sanding block to distress it.
Finally I super glued the chalkboard into place and used it to write out our weekly dinner menu!
Lately we’ve gotten really bad about getting takeout whenever we can’t decide on what to have for dinner, so I’m really hoping that having it planned out and in our faces like this helps!
I propped it up on the kitchen counter in front of the real cutting boards.
Isn’t it great when something can double as decor and function?
My handwriting isn’t awesome, I really tried to pretty it up for this post but it probably won’t be this legible on a regular basis if I’m being completely honest haha!
So far I’m happy to report that we have stuck to it 100% this week. Here’s to hoping we can keep it up!
I’m so happy that you could stop by today! I hope you all have a beautiful weekend and I’ll see you back here next week that share that fun post that I mentioned earlier 🙂
And now for more thrifty goodness!
Linking up to these awesome parties!
