The first week of the One Room Challenge is over and we are officially in week two! In case you missed last week’s post about my plans for the neutral kids bathroom you can catch that post here:
One Room Challenge (Week 1): Neutral Kids Bathroom Plans
Over the weekend I rounded up all of the materials needed to install the new tile floors. I had to drive to a Lowes in a different town since the one by our house didn’t have the right cement board or enough tiles in stock. It made for a fun little adventure for the boys!
As I mentioned last week I chose this beautiful tile:
I spent months searching for the perfect patterned tile for this bathroom and I found that most of them had a real feminine vibe to them. When I found this one I instantly knew that this was the one.
As a sidenote, I noticed that some say “made in Italy” on the back while others say “made in the city of San Mateo” and there is a very slight difference in color between the two. I sorted through them and kept all of the Italy ones and will be returning the others. Just thought I would mention that in case anyone else is considering this tile!
On Monday we ripped out the old vanity. Bye-bye old vanity!
It’s actually in pretty nice condition and the previous owner had the original laminate counter replaced with a custom quartz one. Since the main floor vanity at my parent’s house is in really bad shape, we plan on taking this one over there and it will be a nice little upgrade for them.
Disconnecting all of the plumbing that’s been there for who knows how many years proved to be a little more time consuming than we thought it would be!
We finally got it out and by Tuesday morning this room was ready for the new tile!
We debated for a while whether or not to do the project ourselves. Scratch that, I debated haha. Although we’ve done a couple of tile backsplashes, we’ve never tiled floors before. The hubby was 110% terrified of doing it wrong and messing it up so he finally convinced me to hire. We hired the most amazing husband and wife team and I couldn’t believe how quickly they worked! They ripped out the old and had the new tile set by Tuesday afternoon.
After taking a quick lunch break they came back to grout and clean and it was done by dinner!
The grout has lightened up a bit since I took this picture and I am totally smitten with it!
Tomorrow the new vanity is being delivered and I can’t wait to get a peek at it. As a reminder I chose this this beauty from IKEA.
We are going to wait on installing it until after I get the shiplap on the walls which is what I will be starting on this weekend.
Thanks for swinging by today, I’ll catch up with you guys next week 🙂
