Hey guys! So I’ve been laying pretty low on the big projects around here and that’s because I’ve been saving up my energy for the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge. I always look forward to this event hosted by Linda over at Calling it Home. It provides me with the push I need to knock out a room makeover in just a few weeks when I would probably normally drag out over several months!
If you’re swinging by from the One Room Challenge guest participant link up, let me introduce myself. I’m Angela and I am a self-proclaimed DIY addict. Although I will occasionally splurge on buying new things, I typically like to take on curbside and thrifted treasures and turn them into something beautiful. I also enjoy adding character and charm to our 90s builder home and I do it all with the help of my brilliantly talented husband.
He helps me bring all of the crazy ideas in my head to life, and he also tells me when my ideas are in need some altering haha. When we aren’t busy teaming up on our latest project, we are enjoying life to the fullest raising our three kiddos.
This little trio may keep us on our toes and have us pulling our hair from time to time, but they also remind us each day how lucky we are!
Okay, now let’s chat about the room that I’ve chosen for this season.
When Tristan was two years old I created a dinosaur themed big boy room to transition him from his nursery. He loved it so much that when we moved into our current house two years later, we brought the theme over to his new bedroom. Here is the room before and after we moved in.
We scraped the popcorn ceiling and painted over the dark walls when we first moved, and then last summer I finally installed hardwood flooring in all of the bedrooms. This is how the room looked a few weeks ago when I snapped this picture.
Since he will be 8 later this year (I can hardly believe that!) I figured that it’s time for a room makeover. Also, when Alana stays the night with us we were having to pull a mattress out from under his bed to the middle of the floor. Not ideal!
So a couple of weeks ago we purchased something that has been long overdue, bunk beds!
this kid is beyond stoked with his new bunk bed
Since both Tristan and Alana pretty much live for video games, it was a no brainer on what the perfect theme would be for them. So I present to you, the gamer bedroom plans!
I want it to be a fun mix of colorful and industrial and I think these plans fit the bill.
The first thing that I want to do is create a faux aged brick wall. It fits into the video game theme and it works into that industrial vibe as well. I’m kind of nervous about how it will turn out, but I’m also super excited about.
The other walls will be painted gray, with exception to one which I am letting Tristan pick an accent color for. So far he likes Caicos Turquoise by Behr. As you know, that’s A LOT of color for this neutral loving girl! But he’s really pumped about it and I think in the end it’s going to play off the accessories and be really fun.
He really needs a space to do homework on, so I’ve purchased this desk that fits perfectly in the budget and coordinates nicely with the bunk beds.
I like the idea of creating nice wall storage to display some of his LEGO creations and something like this set of pipe wall shelving would be perfect.
And underneath the shelving it would be nice to have a storage bench to utilize for seating and stashing toys. I am a little skeptical about the low price of this one, but it has great reviews so we’ll give it a shot!
I plan to give his dresser a makeover to make it fit in better, and then from there it’s going to be time to add in all of the accessories. Like this awesome paint splatter rug,
These gamer posters,
and this super cool symbol light set and controller wall light.
I’m so excited to get started and I am looking forward to sharing the steps along the way with you guys over the next 8 weeks!

My little guy is turning 8 this year too and wants me to build him a gaming room in the basement – so he’s really gonna be jealous of this bedroom!
