I am absolutely swimming in projects for the One Room Challenge–things are definitely not moving as fast as I had envisioned they would! However I still wanted to come up with something for this month’s Thrift Store Challenge (and figured it would be a nice little break from the living room!) so I decided to hop over the Goodwill to see if anything caught my eye.
Almost immediately I spotted this pretty ceramic planter.
At least that’s what I think it was? It had a bunch of dirt residue inside so that’s what I am assuming it was used as. Although I’m not sure how about the holes in the side…anyways I decided that I liked it and wanted to give it a new look!
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
- Black Acrylic Paint
- Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Heirloom White
- Sanding Block
- Sandpaper
After scrubbing it clean with dish soap and hot water, I applied two coats of black acrylic paint.
Next, I gave it two coats of Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Heirloom White. Once it was dry I used a combination of a fine sanding block and some medium sandpaper to distress it which brought out the black and the original brown and gave it a fun aged chippy look.
I initially had envisioned it as a planter so I decided to stick some faux stems inside.
It looked really pretty sitting on the table that we have next to the steps.
However I later realized that a candle would be very pretty peeking out of the holes–and I was right!
It looks super cozy on our fireplace hearth.
It was a super quick and easy project but adds so much to the living room that I’m so tirelessly working on haha!
And now for more thrifty goodness!
