The last 8 weeks has been a whirlwind of designing, painting, building…and lots of Amazon ordering!
As a quick recap this is where our room started when we first moved in.
Over the years we removed the popcorn ceiling, replaced the carpet with hardwood flooring, and added an accent wall behind the bed.
We enjoyed this look, but I have been dreaming up a makeover to take it from farmhouse style to more modern and bohemian. And without further ado, here is how it turned out!
The fist thing that I did was paint the accent wall a more moody color. I chose Coastline Tan by Sherwin Williams and it’s the perfect cozy shade of warm brown.
We also updated my DIY upholstered headboard from many years ago with this oak lattice bed.
We finally got a Beddy set which makes bed making a total breeze. I also added a duvet with this pretty sage duvet cover.
I added these large textured pillows and this soft green lumbar pillow and I love that all of the covers have zippers to make them easy to take off and clean!
All of the “new” furniture pieces were actually refinished. The oak nightstands were originally 80a oak and got sanded and paint washed. I added scalloped trim to the bottom for some character.
Side note, this bedside water carafe was such a fun and useful addition to my side since I always get thirsty in the middle of the night!
The tall dresser that Anthony uses got a mixture of paint and wood features with a stencil accent on the top half.
And the long dresser that I use got a similar look.
In the corner I replaced our standing mirror with this stunning one.
I also added this cute scallop rug and little olive tree. The pot was from Hobby Lobby (similar found here).
I updated the old gallery wall by installing a slated wood accent wall with picture ledges.
I decorated them with these muted botanical prints and pretty gold frames.
We also ditched the bedside lamps and installed these wall sconces instead. Rather than hardwiring them, we drilled a hole in the wall at the bottom to feed the end of the plug through, then hooked them up to the outlet that works with the light switch.
I hung up a new linen blackout curtains on this pretty curtain rod with fun sun accents.
And finally we installed not only a new bathroom door, but also a closet door which we have been missing for a long time!
The original slab doors opened inward and were so annoying so we removed them, but only installed a sliding door on the bathroom. I have wanted to add a sliding door on the closet for so long and can’t believe that it’s finally happened!
Instead of building our own, this time we used these prebuilt ones from Amazon that came with all of the hardware needed. I also installed shiplap along this wall to eliminate the need for a header board since it brought the depth out perfectly.
I finished it all up with some fun new decor that I mostly found at Hobby Lobby and Homegoods. I did find a couple of good things on Amazon like these fun candle sconces (I painted them a warm gold to make them blend with the space better.
I also found this sun mirror to use as a fun accent on Anthony’s dresser.
I added two pretty carved wood wall art pieces above the bed. I did two on top of each other to fill the space!
And finally I found the gorgeous washable rug which is an absolute must with dogs!
I am so thrilled with how cozy this space turned out!
And of course a lot of the heavy work would not have been possible without this guy!
