Happy Monday, I hope you all had a nice weekend! We took the boys on a last minute staycation for spring break and had such a fun time! We started with a trip to Garden of the Gods.
After walking through all of the beautiful sights, it felt good to check into our hotel. It was a super unique hotel and had a pool that the boys had so much fun in.
The next day we visited Cave of the Winds and we were all marveled by it. We even braved the seated zip line over the canyon!
For our third day we checked out the cliff dwellings which was a first for all of us and such a cool experience.
We spent the afternoon in Manitou Springs. It’s a cute little town with various natural spring water fountains—we weren’t brave enough to drink it though!
We spent our last morning enjoying the pool one more time before saying goodbye to our hotel!
It was such a fun time and I’m finding it hard to get back to reality this week! We do plan to go back to do a few of the things that we didn’t get a chance to this time around.
Ok, now back to regularly scheduled content! Today I’m sharing how I turned a cute little chest in to a faux card catalog.
Supplies Used:(Affiliate links may be provided for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)
When I found this listed on Marketplace for $20 I was so excited to go get it! However when I saw it in person, I was a little disappointed that I had not paid more attention to measurements haha!
That’s not the first time that has happened and probably won’t be the last! I decide to embrace the smaller size it and make it in to a faux card catalog.
I began by cleaning it well and then sanded down the top to bare wood.
Luckily it was a solid wood win!
I scuff sanded the rest of the dresser, then taped off the top before applying a coat of clear shellac to prime and block wood tanin bleed through.
Once that was dry I began panting with a medium tape color that I mixed up using my paint collection.
For the faux drawers, I cut rectangles out of some eucalyptus hardboard. I sprayed them a slightly lighter color, and once they were dry I secured them with wood glue and nails.
I distressed the edges and then applied some caulk around each one. Once that was dry I went in and touched up the paint.
I sealed it up with two coats of polyacylic. I finished it up by adding some hairpin legs for height, card catalog pulls and fun drawer paper.
The overall look came together so nicely!
I almost forgot to mention that I applied a green paint wash to the top to take out the red tones.
Thanks for swinging by today, I hope you have a happy week!
