Hello my sweet friends! I am SUPER excited about today’s post because it has been a loooong time coming. I’ve had the house decorated for winter for almost a month now, but have had serious trouble finding the time to get this post put together. But alas, I finally had some time to pick up the millions of plastic animals, legos and hoodies that we usually have scattered everywhere to snap a few photos to share with you guys!
Prior to last year, I used to tuck all of the Christmas decorations away after New Years and would leave things pretty barren until springtime rolled around. I remember it always just felt so sad…any empty!
Finally I realized that a lot of the Christmas stuff could actually be enjoyed during the winter months and keeping some of it out out creates such a warm and cozy feeling. I shared my tips on transitioning from Christmas to winter in this post last year in our old house and I incorporated the same things into our new house. I’m sooo happy with how it all came together!
Let’s start with the front room…
The entry table is one of my favorite spots to decorate.
I was going for a whimsical woodland feeling so I propped this white snowflake filled with mini pine cones in the center of a tray and surrounded it with soft faux greenery and birch logs.
I kept several things from Christmas. The driftwood tree, lantern, pine scented candle and galvanized bucket with logs are all great to use for winter decor.
This view will be looking a lot more complete once we get baseboards installed and the board and batten up (that’s why the mirror is so high) but I’m still pretty smitten with how lovely this little space has become so far.
To the left of the entryway is one of my favorite features of this house–the bay window!
We finally installed some bamboo shades and the texture really kicked up the feeling of cozy in this room. Not to mention the privacy level! My DIY Valentines Day pillow using thrifted sweaters sits on the couch and looks really festive along with the silver hearts that I strung on the mirror above.
We don’t have a coffee table in here yet, but I keep a small table here to keep it from feeling like a big open dance floor. I usually keep the decor on it minimal, so I put some greenery and pine cones inside a faux vintage toolbox and called it good.
My curbside table that I flipped last summer is still hanging out next to the couch which is also where I put my rustic Valentine’s art behind a wire basket filled with greenery and pine cones.
Quick sidenote! I am loving how tranquil this room has become. Here is a quick comparison to how it looked when we purchased to today. I still have a lot that I want to do but already it has become brighter and much more “me!”
Next to the staircase (that has been sitting in renovation mode for longer than I would have liked, but is going to get there one day) I set up a few wintery items on a small table.
The large J was an awesome clearance find from Joanns that I got years ago and I actually forgot that I had it until I was digging around in the garage last week.
I set up the same tablescape that I had for Christmas except I switched out the runner for a more neutral one and the ornaments in the lantern for a bottle brush tree.
Next to the table I set up my DIY beadboard art on top of my curbside dresser and filled my thrifted wooden box up with some birch logs, greenery and pine cones.
I kept the hot cocoa bar from Christmas on the kitchen counter but took out the holiday place mat and red straws because even though Christmas is over we are still enjoying many hot cocoa nights over here!
Our living room is where we spend most of our time cuddled up on the couch watching movies.
I made this Romeo & Juliet quote Valentine’s garland last year and although I don’t love our new fireplace quite as much as the old one (yet!) it looks awesome draped across the mantle.
As I mentioned last week I decided to make some more DIY Valentines pillows for our living room and simply adore how with how cute and warm they make this room feel.
Eventually I want to move my DIY card catalog dresser out of this room when we get a new couch and love seat set, but for now I am having a lot of fun styling it.
The sign is my latest Hobby Lobby splurge. I’ve had my eye on it for awhile and it describes our lives so perfectly and beautifully.
Instead of candles, I decided to set my DIY faux birch vases on my wood sconces and popped a few greenery sprigs inside and absolutely love the look of it.
I still have so many plans for our house, but until we tackle them we are enjoying each cozy space and the memories made along the way!
Thank you so much for dropping by today, I hope you enjoyed the tour! I have an exciting project to finish up over the next couple days and should be ready to share it next week. Until then I wish you all a happy rest of the week and weekend!

Your home is beautiful! Thanks for for sharing it with us at #HomeMattersParty. I had to smile though at the unfinished details. I have yet to live in a house where we didn’t have something torn out or constantly a work in progress. Good luck.

What a beautiful home! Your winter decor is breathtaking, and I love how it brings in all the feelings of cozy, calm and still all at the same time. I especially like the pinecones and snowy branches in the decor. Such gorgeous touches!
