And just like that, it’s already week 3 of the One Room Challenge! If you’ve missed any of the previous posts in this series you can catch them below.
I will start by saying this–I am really glad that this challenge is now 8 weeks long as opposed to the previous 6 weeks because I am in no way shape or form near the halfway point! I feel like I have gotten a little bit of a slow start, but this past week was a little more productive and I feel like things are finally started to get moving.
Last week I worked on the fireplace and this week my goal was to get the built-ins done. They aren’t done, but they are at least started haha!
I fell behind because we had a busy Saturday followed by a migraine on Sunday. Then when I thought that I would be able to really get rolling on them this week, I learned that the cabinets that I ordered won’t arrive until next Monday rather than this week. Whomp whomp…
I was starting to stress about the fact that I hadn’t started on them, so yesterday I decided to start building the bases.
It went pretty smoothly with exception to figuring out how we could still easily utilize that side outlet. I ultimately decided to notch out a little piece in front so that we can feed a plug through. It shouldn’t be too noticeable and I can always wedge a little piece of wood in to hide it after it’s through.
Both sides are built, secured to the wall studs and ready for the cabinets to arrive.
I am hoping that it’s smooth sailing from here and I can’t wait to see how they turn out.
Okay, in other news we are still on the search for the perfect new sofa. We took a trip to a big furniture store that’s close to our house and out of hundreds of options I literally didn’t like a single one. I thought about this light colored reclining one for a hot minute…
I ultimately decided that if we are going to go with a light colored couch, it absolutely has to be slip covered. Worrying about stains and spot cleaning is just not something that I think I can handle!
When we got home from what felt like a pointless excursion, I crashed out on the couch for about an hour. When I woke up with my migraine nearly gone, I realized that I actually do love our cozy comfy couch so much that we MAY be sticking with it for awhile longer.
I could always put a pretty throw over the back and get some oversized throw pillows to change it up a little. Anthony was in agreeance.
However, when I was about 95% set on that decision, an ad for Home Reserve popped up on my Instargram feed. I could hardly believe how perfect it sounded! They have a plethora of color choices and you are able to completely design your layout.
Best of all, everything has removeable covers and the fabric is stain resistant and designed to hold up to kids and pets.
The price is very reasonable and you even get to choose the arm type and back cushion shapes. Oh and there is even storage under each seat!
Really, could it get more perfect? I ordered a couple of fabric swatches and I am eager for them to arrive so that I can check them out.
The rest of this week I plan to work on the shiplap in the window nook and may possibly start on the shiplap on the fireplace wall. I reeeeeally wanted to wait until the built-ins were complete but since the cabinets are delayed I may need to keep moving so that I don’t fall to far behind!
Thanks for swinging by today, I’ll catch up with you guys next week 🙂
