Hello friends! Well, we may have gotten a bit of a slow start for week 2, but I am happy to report that we made some major progress for week 3 of the One Room Challenge! In case you missed any posts so far in this challenge you can catch them here:
- One Room Challenge (Week 1): Superhero Room Plans
- One Room Challenge (Week 2): Starting the Faux Brick Wall
Last week I left off sharing that I had installed all of the faux brick wall panels. The next step was adding the spackle. Or drywall mud, or joint compound, or whatever you choose to call it haha!
I went back over and sanded it smooth and then sealed it up with some matte polyurethane.
I shared a full tutorial on the process when I did Tristan’s room, and you can check that out here for all of the details. One quick thing to note, adding the sealer washes out the mud a bit and brings out more of the original brick. This is perfect for the look that I’m going for, but if you want it to remain more white you would want to go heavier on the spackle.
Here’s a comparison of the sealed side (on the right) compared to the unsealed side (on the left).
With the accent wall being done, it was time to move on to the rest of the walls! I chose Cotton Grey by Behr which is the same color that I did in Tristan’s room. It is a nice warm neutral grey.
I did that on two of the walls, but for the final wall I let Lucas have full reign on choosing an accent color! We took down his woodland decals which was bittersweet (he chose to keep one leaf) and then got to work.
He chose Lazy Caterpillar by Behr which is a bright cheerful green and matches his personality perfectly. He had fun rolling a bit on, but then lost interest so he kept me company as I finished it up.
I went back on Monday to work on the dreaded closet. Does anyone else dislike painting the insides of closets or is it just me? There are so many nooks and crannies, and it seems to take forever!
We also started working on the window and door trim. Every window and door have been trimmed in this house and these were the last on the list!
Can you spot his artwork on the old windowsill? I’ve already explained that he can’t decorate the new one haha. It felt sort of monumental to be cutting and installing these pieces since they felt like the last piece of a puzzle.
And finally, his new bed arrived yesterday, and he was super eager for us to get it built for him.
Anthony did most of the work while we assisted.
He was most excited about the slide feature and the look of pure joy on his face all night when he would talk about it was so sweet.
Whew, what a week! For this upcoming week I plan to get the trim/brick wall caulked and to also organize his new storage system in his closet. We will be leaving for our Disneyworld trip next Tuesday and will be gone for an entire week. I feel good about what we accomplished this past week so missing a week shouldn’t be a problem!
I will be back next week with a quick update before we fly out 🙂
