Hello everyone and welcome to week 5 of the One Room Challenge! This is the last weekly update before the big reveal. Eeeek–I can hardly believe it! I feel like this challenge has zoomed by at serious warp speed.

I feel like I have a ton to wrap up and am biting my nails over here wondering how in the world I am going to have everything ready by Sunday to photograph. But at the same time, I am super eager to start using our bathroom again and to clean up the messes that have accumulated in the rest of our house while I have been focused on this room. So I am excited to be done!
Okay, let’s take a look back at this past week.
On Friday night my hubby was a total super hero and jumped in to help me cross a few items off the list that I couldn’t do alone. Like getting the pipes anchored to the wall for my shelves.
I supervised and took pictures in the mirror…
Kidding..kind of. Measuring, spacing and making sure they are level is totally a two person job, but once the holes were marked it was all him since I still am completely useless when it comes to a drill. My job was to cut down the wood for the shelves and stain them. I am so happy with how they turned out!
I’m still playing around with styling them which is both a fun and frustratig process. Anything that I have come up so far either seems to busy or too sparse. Hmmmm…
He also helped me hang our beast of mirror back up above the vanity. It was previously secured with plastic clips, but since I wanted to attach a frame to the front I knew that those had to go.
I purchased these flat metal mirror clips but it took us awhile to figure out how to make them work. It turns out that the round headed screws that they come with stick too far out and don’t leave enough room for the mirror. We actually had to go get flat headed ones which work much better.
I built a frame using 1x6s and L-Brackets and we hung it up using large command strips. A lot of them!!
I am shocked at how much it instantly upgraded our mirror! I originally had not planned on painting it, but after I stained the pieces I realized that it clashed with my towel holders. I left some of the stained wood showing underneath the paint for a worn rustic look.
Finally, he helped me install the vanity hardware. We ran into a problem finding the right size screws for the pulls, hence why they are sitting on the counter rather than on the drawers in the picture below. We finally bought some so the vanity will be looking a lot more complete when you see it next week!
After the pipe shelves were installed, I was finally able to measure out and hang up the pretty botanical eucalyptus prints above the tub.
And the craftsman trim around the window is installed! I haven’t yet taken a picture of it, but you can get a sneak peak of it below.
I’ve been putting off cleaning until I am done with all of the trim work, so I have A LOT of cleaning to do in here. So far the only thing that I have started to clean are the sinks. They were covered in overspray, caulk, concrete, paint, grout…it was driving me absolutely crazy guys! Still not at 100%, but much better than they were.
The last big item still pending is barn door. We are building it from scratch and since this is the first one we’ve ever done, I’m pretty anxious about it. We started on it Tuesday night and if all goes well we should be ready to install it by Friday night!
Here is what’s left on the list:
Week 6 (May 3 – May 9)
- caulk and paint trim (baseboards, shiplap, door and windows)
- build and install barn door
- CLEAN!!!
- photograph and write reveal post
Wish me luck that I can pull it all together and still keep my sanity somewhat in tact! I’ll see you all back here next week 🙂

It looks outstanding, and you’re almost done. I wonder if you’ll be putting some kind of rug or mat on the floor….enjoying your progress.
