Well my friends, welcome to week 5 of the One Room Challenge–the last update before the big reveal! I can hardly believe how fast the time has flown. If you’ve been following along, you may recall that I’ve felt pretty confident about finishing on time…but now that we are officially down to the last week I’m starting freak out a little bit!
In case you’ve missed any of the fun along the way, don’t worry–you can catch all of the previous weeks’ updates here!
- One Room Challenge (Week 1): Farmhouse Kitchen Plans
- One Room Challenge (Week 2): Cabinet Progress
- One Room Challenge (Week 3): New Countertops!
- One Room Challenge (Week 4): The Backsplash
Just as I had anticipated, this past week was NOT super productive. On Saturday we took the kids to Boo at the zoo…

We dressed up as the cutest animated couple of all time and hosted a Halloween party Saturday night…
And on Sunday despite cold snowy temperatures we took the boys to Pumpkin Nights.

So yeh..not a whole lot of time was spent on the kitchen over the weekend! Although there are a couple of things that we did accomplish that I am excited to share with you guys. Like our new pendant light over the sink!

After a lot of debate, I decided to go with my initial gut on the A&B wooden chandelier and I couldn’t be happier with it. I know it’s hard to tell in nighttime lighting, but it’s absolutely stunning in here!

I also decided to go with my gut on this cotton rug set. Two rugs for $28 is such a crazy good deal, and the quality is surprisingly nice! I’m washing the smaller one since I already got a stain on it, but eventually I’ll keep the small one in front of the sink and this longer one in front of the stove.

I decided that this Sonoma saddle bench was the perfect fit for the island. I love how low profile it is and the height is much better than the tall stools that we had there previously.

Okay, I know you’re all wondering about the big elephant in the middle of the room (literally). As you may recall I’ve planned on installing a dark stained butcher block counter on the island to offset all of the white. I ordered this 3′ butcher block and was super excited to start staining it. However when I opened it last night I was so disappointed to see that it has a giant crack down the middle.

I already ordered a new one but it won’t be here until the end of next week. Whomp whomp. I’m really disappointed that the reveal pics next week will be missing it, but it is what it is!
In less exciting news I finally got the trim pieces next to the sink glued in place and I just to paint and caulk. Once that’s done, you’ll never be able to tell that this wasn’t a custom ordered cabinet!

Looks so good! I love the shiplap and the butcher block countertops are going to look incredible. I hate they won’t be done to photograph but it will be worth the wait!

Thank you so much Elizabeth! I know I’m bummed too but I think the rest of the kitchen turned out so great that it won’t be too badly missed! 🙂
