One Room Challenge (Week 5): Fun Details

June 2, 2021

Hey guys, welcome to week 5 of the One Room Challenge! If you need to catch any of the previous posts in this series you can catch them all here:

  • One Room Challenge (Week 1): Gamer Bedroom Plans
  • One Room Challenge (Week 2): Wall Paint
  • One Room Challenge (Week 3): Starting the Brick Wall
  • One Room Challenge (Week 4): A Lot of Progress for The Halfway Point

Things are moving right along in the gamer bedroom. I still have a few DIYs that I need to cross of the list, but this past week I’ve been adding a lot of the fun details. Let’s chat about the posters first.

Amazon has a plethora of gamer themed posters available in all sorts of colors and phrases, however most of them are 8×10 which was smaller than what I had envisioned. I finally stumbled upon these ones in 12×16 and right away I knew that they would be perfect.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are actually printed on canvas rather than just paper. I popped them in some frames from IKEA and then built a picture ledge to set them on. (I shared a tutorial on how I built my picture ledges that can be found here)

I also received the controller light that Tristan has been excited about, although we haven’t hung it up yet. I would like to put it above the posters, however I am waiting for the hubby to help me route the cord behind the wall so that it’s hidden.

I assembled the desk that I ordered awhile back and was shocked to see that the metal is actually dark gray rather than black.

It works well since the the dresser that I just refinished is gray.

We took a trip to American Furniture Warehouse to pick up a metal chair and then swung by Target to pick up the lamp that I ordered.

I need to pin the cords out of the way, so try to ignore those for now! I hung up the chalkboard and now I’m on the search for a wall basket so that he can use to organize supplies.

Moving to the other side of the room, the collapsible storage bench arrived, but I was expecting it to be a tad bit bigger!

I told myself that for only $40 I couldn’t be expecting too much, but when I got back on Amazon I found this one for just $10 more. It’s about 13″ longer and I like that the top opens in the middle so you don’t have to take the whole thing off to get inside. I think it will fill this wall out much better so I went ahead and ordered it.

There are a few other things that I am waiting on the hubby’s help to install. The pipe shelving, the wall sconce lights and the new bamboo blinds. It’s busy season for his company so he’s usually dead tired when he gets home. Hopefully we can get to them this weekend.

I plan to focus on my remaining DIY projects this upcoming week, so stay tuned for that.

It’s so exciting to see everything starting to come to life and I can’t believe that in just 3 short weeks this room should be officially done!
