Hello everyone! We are in the final stretch of the One Room Challenge and there are only TWO short weeks left until reveal day. That means it is time to start finalizing all of the small details and of course re-do the first project haha!
In case you missed any previous posts in this challenge I will link them here for you to catch up:
- One Room Challenge (Week 1): Kitchen Refresh Plans
- One Room Challenge (Week 2): Choosing a Cabinet Color
- One Room Challenge (Week 3): Painting the Cabinets
- One Room Challenge (Week 4): Building the Upper Cabinet Boxes
- One Room Challenge (Week 5): Installing a Faux Wood Beam
Last week I finished building the beam much earlier than I had anticipated, but I didn’t want to start repainting the cabinets since I wanted the kitchen in a little bit of order for our Mother’s Day brunch. Therefore I decided to give the step stool a little makeover.
We have had this guy for many years and it has received a ton of use. In addition to using it daily to get to the top cabinet shelves, it has also served as my painting stool (hence the paint splatters!) and was in need of an update. I first sanded it down to the bare wood.
Next, I applied a tan wash followed by dark wax using a wet rag so that it went on washed. I decided to add something fun so I taped off the legs and created a dipped look. I absolutely love how it turned out!
I then took most of the weekend off to enjoy Mother’s Day with the family as we prepared for our annual brunch.
Then, Sunday afternoon I went through the kitchen and took all of the cabinet doors and drawers out so that I could get them ready to repaint—with the help of my little assistant of course!
I quickly wiped them down and lightly sanded each one so that the new paint would stick well. Monday I cracked open the new paint to start spraying! The new color is Benjamin Moore Pashmina and I had it mixed in to Behr Cabinet Enamel.
I sprayed two coats on either side.
I actually had a slight moment of panic when it went on because it goes on so light! Once it dries, it is much richer and is exactly the color that I have been searching for.
I finished up yesterday and today I plan on getting it all put back in.
All that it left now for this final phase of the refresh are the details! So cabinet lighting, shelving and a few little decor pieces are what I will be working on this week. I will be back next week with one more update before the big reveal!

First, my heart is racing seeing you spray so close to a car! 😉 I LOVE this color. I did similar in my kitchen – Dove by Behr. It’s not the bright stark white, just a little light gray in there to soften them up. I think you’ll love yours like I love mine! The whole kitchen looks great!

Luckily the overspray was very minimal and the car that was in the driveway is our old beater car that we keep around for emergencies–one side of it doesn’t even have paint anymore since it’s all chipped away haha!
