One Room Challenge (Week 7): The Final Details

May 18, 2022

Well just like that, here we are on the last week of the One Room Challenge!

If you have missed any previous posts in the challenge, you can catch them all here:

  • One Room Challenge (Week 1): Kitchen Refresh Plans
  • One Room Challenge (Week 2): Choosing a Cabinet Color
  • One Room Challenge (Week 3): Painting the Cabinets
  • One Room Challenge (Week 4): Building the Upper Cabinet Boxes
  • One Room Challenge (Week 5): Installing a Faux Wood Beam
  • One Room Challenge (Week 6): Painting the Lower Kitchen Cabinets…Again!

This past week has been all about working on the smaller details. When I installed the upper cabinet boxes I knew that some lighting inside of them would look super pretty.

So I ordered these LED light strips from Amazon.

I set out to tackle this with hopes that it wouldn’t be too hard and although it technically was not, I did run in to several learning curves!

I started by drilling holes between the cabinet boxes so that I could feed the strip through.

I taped the strip to a coat hanger to make it easier to push through, however once I got to the vent hood cover I was totally stuck.

I couldn’t get the other end of the coat hanger through no matter what! The hubby has done this type of thing several times around the house and I am sure he could have gotten it when he got home—but I have no patience so I simply made a bigger hole haha!

I also switched over from a coat hanger to a tent pole since it was more sturdy. Don’t worry, I patched all of this up later on haha!

Then I ran into another problem at the corner.

The solution here was to take off the trim and boards that I had already worked hard to add, so that was a bit hard to bring myself to do!

Once I got past that though, it was smooth sailing and I love the final look!

Next up was the shelving that I wanted to add to this wall.

I purchased these shelf brackets from Amazon and I am absolutely smitten with the design of them.

The install was super simple, we marked out where we wanted them and then secured them using drywall anchors.

Here is a quick sneak peek at how they turned out!

I have a few more final touches to add this week and I look forward to seeing you back here next week for the big reveal!
