We are officially in the last week of the One Room Challenge and I can hardly believe that this time next week that I will have a finished living room (hopefully haha!) ready to share with you guys.

This past week we tackled the fireplace mantel and I am absolutely smitten with how it turned out! Truthfully I dove into this DIY with not much of a plan since the tutorials that I read online all had a much different fireplace set up than ours. Instead of having the entire mantel sit on top of the brick, we needed ours to wrap around it so that it could fit underneath the TV.
I began by securing a 2×3 to the studs. I put all my trust that the brick was level and didn’t use a level to check it, more on that later haha!
I cut my three boards to length and also mitered the edges so that they would come together a seamless beam.
I had to jigsaw cut my bottom board so that it could wrap the fireplace.
Everything was smooth sailing until I went to put everything up, that’s when I realized that not only was the support beam not level, my 2×3 blocks that I used for inside support were not cut exact and was causing the whole thing to bow out.
I was so frustrated! Luckily my knight in shining armor came to the rescue and helped me fix it all.
Here is how it looks all stained and sealed–I am obsessed!
It makes such a statement and my eye still keeps seeing the old dated mantel when I glance this way haha. I suppose it will take some time to adjust to this new beautiful view. I also hung the mirrors back up as well as the new black and wood sconce lights.
I finally got the new cordless bamboo blinds hung up in the window. I also hung up some canvas drop cloth curtains on the new iron pipe curtain rod.
I found these adorable bead tiebacks and love the little flair that they add.
I promise to get some better lit pictures for next week so that you can truly appreciate the beauty of this spot! Left on the list is staining the coffee table and building a new blanket ladder. I am so excited to see this space almost complete. See you back here next week for the big day 🙂
